Opus @ >128 kbps sounds as good as FLAC, even for audiophiles (as much as some may try to deny it). The real advantage for FLAC is for archival purposes.
I have everything as FLAC, then every now and then run a batch conversion to a mirror folder as MP3V0
Of course, after I spent all that time converting and automating, I got a spotify subscription, and barely touch the files now :|
Many years ago, I had to fix a video of my sisters wedding after the only copy of the file they had truncated itself somehow.
Had to extract all the audio and video frame locations and recreate the missing part of the file. It was a colossal pain in the arse. Couldn't find anything at the time to automatically fix it.
