Widelands is a Settlers II inspired RTS with single and multiplayer modes. It has Windows, Mac and Linux builds.

Dang, I haven't heard of this before and I still play Settlers II via Return to the Roots. Genuine thanks for sharing.
That's exactly why I posted this! There are so many open source and decompilation projects it's impossible to know about all of them.
