I graduated as a mechanical engineer, but these days am the lead for a large Android project. Am I an engineer? Yes.
Engineering is about coming up with solutions to problems where the solution is not always obvious, and a lot of software work can fall into this.
If all you are doing as a coder is modifying the UI, or fixing a bug, this is not engineering. If you are designing the systems, you’re an Engineer.
3 0 ReplyAs an old school engineer my knee jerk reaction is to agree, but the truth is that an increasing percentage of the work for all the stuff we make is software.
