- The internet has come a long way from the original shock sites and scream videos to memeing Wikipedia articles of actually horrific real life events.
- None of the shooters got jailed??
  
  They were Ohio National Guard acting in the line of duty. Since then the Kent State incident is used in training as a counter example, how not to control a protest / riot.

A friend's mom was there in 1970. Wasn't a good time.

Unsure what the implication is. The Kent State shootings are common knowledge in the US, it's taught in schools, no one needs to be tricked into knowing it happened.

  Is there some other country that's dealing with a crackdown on student protests at the moment where referencing Kent State would be salient?
- Well, the US doesn't even have a National curriculum, so I'm willing to be that there are probably many Americans who don't know anything about Kent state.
  
  My high school did a terrible job with teaching about it, I think it was mentioned briefly but with no real detail. I did go to high school in Florida, but I graduated in 2008 before things got really bad there.
