I thought this … until I saw The Hobbit. Their devotion was clearly waning at that point.
Heard the actors were less than impressed as well.
I think devotion for LOTR must still be there with them today. The Hobbit feels more like a project your boss forces you to do after getting incredibly rich by exploiting you with your first passion project.
This new one feels like them getting some extra cash to finally retire.
Del Toro was the director and Jackson stepped in last minute to savage.

This is gonna suffer the same issue that Star Wars has. They have an entire world and myths to explore and they just stick with a core group to focus on.
Didn't they try to branch out in that Amazon series? People bitched about that one too.
I'm assuming this must be issue of what works pf Tolkien do they have rights for.
