Killed two weeks before launch? That makes no sense
What a sucker punch to that entire team.
I'd rather something to release than for nothing to ever come out, or if it's not up to snuff for the publisher, for the team to go indie (like this one tried to) and still release it rather than having it be forever undercooked in a vault somewhere.
Tbf is there any game publisher that doesn't act like this? I like a lot of paradox's games too, but expecting any company to be the "good" company in the industry is asking for disappointment.
Big publisher? Valve, I guess. Smaller publishers like Coffee Stain, Team 17, and Devolver, etc. seem to be customer focused with their releases. For some reason, at a certain scale of game, the publishers become obsessed with milking their customers instead of being satisfied with a straightforward transaction.
the people who fire you over public announcement effective immediately are the same ones who shit their pampers if someone quits without giving 2 weeks notice
Hopefully the backlash of the Cities 2 release directly caused this, because holy shit something needs to start happening in regard to half-assed releases and unfulfilled marketing.
Sad part is that if they had just released the game as “Early Access” and didn’t bullshit so many of the underlying economy simulation aspects, it wouldn’t have been such a disaster.
