Mods: The Community Icon and Banner are Both Broken
The community banner and icon are both broken and seem to be hosted away from Lemmy World on fry.gs
which I believe is/was the home instance for one of the original mods. That instance appears to be no longer functional.
Not sure how long they've been broken; I just noticed that when I flushed my cache recently they weren't working and then realized the banner and icon links the API returns no longer work.

"icon": "https://fry.gs/pictrs/image/c6832070-8625-4688-b9e5-5d519541e092.png", "banner": "https://fry.gs/pictrs/image/1a1e9226-87cb-4499-94a7-d43b1e520e50.png",
Update: I did find the banner. I don't have a copy of the banner, but I do have the icon in my instance's proxy/cache if you want to save it and re-apply it from Lemmy World.
I suggest adding a rule to not post videos here.
In my humble opinion, the Technology community should only contain text news/articles or even news pictures.
I simply think that tech videos does not belong to this community, as there is already a videos community which would be more suitable for this.
What does the mods think about this?
: ban @szmer.info?
It seems this community is being targeted by ad bots. I see all of them come from a @szmer.info
instance (or?). Maybe it should be banned?
Meta to end news access in Canada over publisher payment law (The Guardian)
Move comes in response to Canadian legislation requiring internet giants to pay news publishers
Guardian staff and agencies Tue 1 Aug 2023 22.14 BST
Meta has begun the process to end access to news on Facebook and Instagram for all users in Canada, the company said on Tuesday.
The move comes in response to legislation in the country requiring internet giants to pay news publishers.
The findings suggest that Facebook users seek out content that aligns with their views.
Meta’s communications director, Andy Stone, said the changes will roll out in the coming weeks.
Canada’s heritage minister, Pascale St-Onge, who is in charge of the government’s dealings with Meta, called the move irresponsible.
“[Meta] would rather block their users from accessing good quality and local news instead of paying their fair share to news organizations,” St-Onge said in a statement on Tuesday. “We’re going to keep standing our ground. After all, if the government can’t stand up for Canadians agains
So... about the bots
As some may have noticed, a fairly large portion of the post on this community are article links posted by bots. I am no moderator and am just a regular user like the rest of you, but I want to know what the community thinks of the posting bots. here is a sample of my opinion to get conversation started:
Pros:
- lots of content to engage with
- people can focus on discussing things not finding thing
Cons:
- lack of reliable quality of article
- lack of diversity of content
