Community Chat Platform for Connect for Lemmy
Summary
Potential Implementation of a dedicated chat platform for Connect for Lemmy users, either through Discord or Revolt Chat, to foster community engagement, facilitate feature requests, and provide a space for user discussions.
Detailed Description
As a user of Connect for Lemmy, I personally believe that implementing a community chat platform could GREATLY enhance user experience and community engagement.
This idea is inspired by similar implementations in other Lemmy clients, such as Sync for Lemmy's Discord server.
Two potential options for this feature:
- Discord Server:
- Create an official Discord server for Connect for Lemmy users.
- Advantages: Widely used, feature-rich, and familiar to many users.
- Revolt Chat (https://revolt.chat/):
- Implement an open-source alternative to Discord.
- Advantages: Aligns with open-source principles, potentially more privacy-focused.
Proposed Functionality
- Dedicated channels for:
Instance Blocking on Tap and Hold Menu
Allowing users to block instances similar to blocking communities via tap and holding on any community name.
This would simplify and improve the user experience as it would allow users to block instances instead of requiring then to navigate to the filters settings to then manually type for the instance.
I'm assuming the implementation should be fairly easy and beneficial as:
- The tap and hold menu is already implemented
- The selected instance can be directly added to the blocklist reducing the need to search, thereby slightly improving performance. (I could be wrong about this point)
"Combokeys" instead of hotkeys.
Title. Basically, "if a street fighter gamer and a linux tryhard had a baby" where a combination of keys is issued to run a command/script rather than a single or a simultaneous stroke of two or more. i.e left, down, left, right arrow keys, R_CTRL to run Firefox. Right, right, Up, right arrow keys, delete to power off the PC, etc.
Don't know if such command exists, but there you go.
Bonus points if its a standalone and supports X11, Wayland and Arcan.
Option to list all the communities of an instance
As I wrote in the title, I'd love to have the option to scroll through the list of communities of an instance.
Maybe could you add that option in the post menu?
If I see a post of a community, I'd like to quickly know more about that instance.
Thank you for your hard work btw
Add option to browse community and instance without opening the post
I'd love to have the possibility to browse the instance and community of a post without opening it. Now the menu looks like
When I open the post, there are the
