YouTube is experimenting with server-side ads
  • premium just removes the ads. I would pay for and use google services that removed the tracking and spying too, or only. that will never happen because the spying is the point. good luck paying to the people that also spies on you and gaslight you about it.

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl — The Time of Opportunities Trailer
  • Hey thanks, no apology needed. In fact, I think you are making me think about giving the original another go now that I know about those mods.

btw i didn't know that it was based on Roadside Picnic, haven't read it, but I have in my reading list since I saw it mentioned in HyperNormalisation. Thanks.

  • Thank you for such a detailed comparison!

It seems that they are largely different in many aspects, but probably similar in the ways I most enjoy of a game. I actually tried to play STALKER once a long time ago and never really clicked for me, in part because of the same reason you mention, it was very wonky and didn't run well at all, but I am willing to give this one a chance given that the same happened to me with the Metro series. One of my favorite parts of metro was the Caspian desert in exodus, which I would say is kind of an open world map, so maybe I can hope that this one captures me in the same way.

Thanks for the response, and let's hope this will be a great one!

  • Sen. John Fetterman and wife Giselle taken to hospital after car crash in Maryland
  • Nah, you are trying to salvage this situation by changing everything you meant. Suddenly you are trying to sanitize every reference you made to political ideology and try to dress up this as concern. Now you accuse everybody else of conspiracies and extrapolation when you used 'suspicious' (which has a very clear connotation about a malign or hidden background https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/suspicious) instead of 'indicative', 'concerning', 'worrisome', 'troubling'. People can read, and they read 'suspicious' which along with your references to political ideology really says who is the one thinking about conspiracies.

  • Is there any closed source android app that you wish had a good open source alternative?
  • I feel like you should just download the apps and test them yourself instead of only going by ratings. These are free apps, and it takes a few minutes to see if something has the feature or feel you want. Once you uninstall a launcher, android goes back to the previous with all its configurations as it was, so you don't need to risk your previous setup. Just a suggestion of what I do, because I find that for something as particular as a phone launcher, ratings are often incomplete information.

  • Is there any closed source android app that you wish had a good open source alternative?
  • I support this just because it's something so niche that I believe you balloon people deserve it. I feel like we all with our own requests for media players and readers and launchers and messengers have at least a couple usable options and tons of options that may require getting used to or some compromise, but are there. But an app for balloon pilots? There's something that probably is in dire need of something else.

  • Favourite DE
  • GNOME. Won't say I don't hate it sometimes but every time after a few weeks using anything else I'm back to gnome. The polish and smoothness are unparalleled, and I don't really customize a lot. I did used the Plasma 6 beta and seemed great even if it's not my preference of design language, but haven't tried since. I should give it another go.

  • Mozilla is adding tab grouping, vertical tabs, profile management, and local AI features to Firefox
  • They shouldn't have announced until it was ready for release.

I just bought my first ultrawide monitor and was just getting into testing the available options for vertical tabs, but I don't like having them duplicated, so I was just thinking that this should be a native feature.

    And now I can't wait.

  • France riles allies by inviting Russia to D-Day commemoration
  • True, but it's not the first time someone has that idea. Germany spent 2 decades appeasing Russia to try to integrate them, and america and NATO basically served their requests after the 2008 invasion of Georgia in an attempt to get them to behave and be a part of the gang. We already know that it means nothing to Putin, we don't need to try this stuff again.

  • Living in a forest without any technology also works, since you will have no internet access anyways.
  • nah, every little step is good and this 'perfection or nothing' attitude is very damaging to anything, including the personal and collective fight for rights and privacy.

oh, sorry this the shitpost community, no need for me yo lecture. good joke then, yes it can be taxing sometimes. that sponge is literally me.

  • Riot Games talk Vanguard anti-cheat for League of Legends and why it's a no for Linux
  • Original post is fairly detailed and very interesting. Obviously I don't like but I understand their assessment.

However I do find mildly dishonest using yesterday Linux player count. The LoL Linux community has been aware of vanguard and the coming end for weeks now, and many people myself included have already moved on leaving LoL behind.

An honest and frankly plain interesting figure would be the player count from a few months back. Just in lutris website theres a count of over 32 thousands player with the game in their library, plus all the other ways of playing it.

This seems like just a last bad faith move so that we convince ourselves that they are right and that we were pretty much being an unfair burden to them. It makes more sense to say 'Well we will deny service to 800 people because its not worth it' to say 'Well we will deny service to tens of thousands of people because its not worth it'.

Anyway, good riddance, already on better things myself.
