  • Honestly buy something that is good quality but doesn't have stupid shit, do I need my washing machine and my toaster talking to each other? No but the stripped down no frills ones are normally built to be as absolutely cheap as possible.

  • Lol, considering I heard it all the time growing up in the 80s you might be a bit off on your assessment.

I grew up in a middle class suburb where the it was used as an insult kinda like " poor people are poor because they are stupid"

She grew up in the Ozarks and they used it more as a " we got ways to make do"

  • I'm not saying it is the case in your situation but sometimes very old appliances are so inefficient that it makes sense to replace them on energy savings alone, we had a fridge that I put a meter on to see what it cost us to run, it was a little over $100 more per year then the larger one I was thinking of buying So if this new one lasts 10 years or so it will have paid for itself.

  • This is my mother in law to a tee, she buys second hand washing machines on craigslist for $100 - 200 they last about a year and she buys a new one. Always complaining about "planned obsolescence". I keep telling her "no one is selling a good used washing machine, they had problems with it and got a new one" Meanwhile she criticizes me for spending $700 on a washing machine we have had for 10 years now.

She has a saying "poor people have poor ways" which she thinks means that when your poor you work with what you have, I have told her it is an insult that means poor people are poor because of their actions and decisions.

  • When people pretend they cannot understand a sentence becuse of a grammatical error.

If you honestly can't parse out what a person is trying to say because they left out a comma or misspelled a word or God forbid used the wrong "their" perhaps you need to work on reading skills.

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

    If we developed dairy platypus.

  • I refuse to take any calls from robot, i've had Dr offices say "we tried to call you" and I reply "no you didnt you had a robot try to call me and I ain't got time for that shit", of couse "ain't got time" is relative, because I am mostly just digging holes in mine craft.

  • When I was a kid I learned about the "cycle of abuse" I was so sure I would end up like my dad, I started drinking hevely at around 12 and lagit intended to not live long enough to ever be a parent, then after a fairly shitty youth I decided it was time to kill myself or try and fix shit, I had already lost 2 brothers to suicide so I knew the effect that had on the people left behind so I joined the Army reserves and started trying to fix my shit, I thought I was doin pretty good at 27, so I let my then wife talk me into us haveing a baby, my son was born and I dedicated myself to being the best father I could, but wasnt till I was 40 that I started working on mental health (thanks to current wife) my life has had a lot of super not great, but im here and still working on being a good parent.

  • My Dad.

He was verbally and physically abusive, extremely manipulative. He is currently dieing in prison serving out a 25 year sentence for attempted rape and abduction.

I got a DNA test done and then sent the results to all of the forensic genealogy groups because I'm pretty sure he has victims out there.

  • I'm not saying this is true but, if you wanted to enter a war in Iran this text would be good to release a few days before our embassy in Israel is hit by Iranian missiles. Not saying it will happen but if Huckabee is a victim of that attack someone should check if his body has been frozen.
