Whats scary is that 90% of my own city looks like that. I literally would not be able to say whether that was a picture of a different city or not if somebody showed it to me. The other 10% is some rundown buildings from the 1800s that weren't bulldozed because they were churches or sat next to them.

Dude I know that all of those probably hurt a lot but that sounds like an awesome life.

Tried to cross ice covered river in the middle of winter. Fell in halfway through much to my chagrin. Turns out the ice was a lot less stable farther from the riverbed and I thought after testing the side of the river that the ice was thick enough to hold me. Honestly the walk home was probably the closest I have ever come to dying. I was about an hour walk away from home. My fingers stopped working before I got out of the woods.

Has Ea-Nasir sold you some low quality copper?

Did you at least inform of this to rub it in? I know it probably has been years and he dosen't remember but it sounds worth it if he does.

It is just me or is anyone else bothered that the color scale is backwards?

I did, it was probably one of my favourite Sanderson standalones. It was weird reading it before Wind & Truth though since I found out about Sigzil killing his spren and becoming a skybreaker before actually seeing the scene where he kills her in Wind & Truth.

Wind and Truth was great but I was kind of sad that the first arc of Stormlight was done. Of course I don't want to spoil the ending but I feel like the second arc will feel like a completely different world and I am sad I won't get to see more of normal Roshar. The worldbuilding and magic systems are just awesome in Sanderson works.

Just started Winter's Heart and I am excited. There are a lot of plot threads that need to be resolved and I am hoping they happen in this book. Mat during CoS ended in a cliffhanger and I know that he will finally meet the Daughter of the Nine Moons. Rand needs to cleanse saidin and also meet back up with Elayne and Aviendha. Perrin needs to find Faile again which I am kind of annoyed since Faile's capture seemed like an unnecessary and I dislike the Shaido chapters. I would rather have Perrin and Faile go ahead solve the actual problems in Ghealdan they needed to solve with the Prophet and were sent there for than an entire book of Perrin chasing after the Shaido. Its kind of awesome to get a book with a bunch of Mat, Perrin and Rand again in one. I wish I had more Mat and Perrin chapters and this delivers.

As a young person, I have never had an opportunity to do much of anything. I blame living in a suburban wasteland and being overly sheltered. I mostly just read, program and go on bike rides. There isn't anywhere in my city to actually hang out besides the walmart parking lot or the library. I do spend a unhealthy amount of time at the library.

Not old, not communist and I am from Canada. I am only sort of a programmer. Only do it as a hobby and my job is only tangentially related to it.

Yeah I came here because of the reddit exodus but stayed for the linux. I just need something to scroll through when I am bored and my rss feed isn't interesting me. As a young person its weird everybody here is old. I am 17 and would've thought more of the youth would be interested in alternative social media platforms. Aren't young people supposed to be the ones who do things contradictory to the status quo?

There is no secret agenda here. Its just a dumb meme. You can a meme with the words "shifting baseline syndrome" if you want. In fact you can put whatever you want in a meme.

Because you asked for it? Someone posted a dumb meme and didn't cite it with studies and now you are mad. You do have some burden since you are the one who started the discussion on proof in the first place. If you can't even be bothered to look at the proof they bring, its not their problem.

Dude, you said show "proof" and he showed proof. Dunno what you are complaining about. How was he supposed to prove anything without linking to an external source?

Yeah I guess. North American suburbs are not built for youth. It sucks here. I wish I was born in the Netherlands or something but where I live I have no way to actually safely leave my subdivision since its divided from the nearest city by the Highway 401.

As a 17 year old who only really uses Lemmy, Youtube and IRC I think social media is the least of my problems. I wouldn't spend so much time online if there was anything else to do. The outside is a suburban wasteland that offers nothing. The most I can do is walk to the library an hour away and read a book there.

As a 2007 kid I don't many of my peers actually are but we are pretty different than post 2007 kids. I still grew up with satellite tv for the most part.
