I guess I haven't seen him in awhile but time keeps moving on.
I am going to be running across his work again soon as I am almost up to his Columbo episode.
I just found out he was in (as injured man) Jekyll and Hyde ... Together Again. Huh.
I really enjoyed him in House. He was great as the neighbor.
RIP George. Cheers.
I get that this is a specific experience. It just made me think about how so many people go for the block button on silly sites like this one..
I have seen people have some obnoxious weird idea about one thing and be brilliant about another. Not everyone, some are just trolls, but some people are really. Good at something interesting and have stupid ideas about others.
I am not so quick to just write everyone off, but I also find it easy to just not read things I don't care about.
I guess I just don't read it. It's that simple.
I've never blocked anyone. 14 years of reddit and now Lemmy and there has never been a reason to. I find it weird when people do it.
I get it if someone is harrasing you, but an anonymous disagreement? Meh, whatever. If I am done I just quit responding and move on.
I suppose being online since the 80's gives you a little bit of perspective. Don't feed the trolls, everyone is a liar, and nothing anyone says matters unless you want it to.
And never use social media.
Of course you can. I have had it that way for many years.
They both even point to the same media folders.
I usually use Jellyfin, it's snappier.
I have been to places with this layout.
Private stalls. Sinks and hand washing open and visible to the hallway. Nobody feels threatrned or uncomfortable.
I am about to switch away from arch that I installed 5 years ago. It's a daunting thought isn't it?

Use scaled as a sort occasionally to see other posts in your subscriptions. I switch back and forth.
At the same time: the world is crazy now. There is a lot of push to take away things like platforms like this. People are trying to push opinions and people are scared.
No I am not confusing it. When microsoft got it they made it much worse, as they centralized all calls, were before it was p2p after the call was made.
But prior to that, when it first started to go from skype to skype was free and it was ok. To go from skype to landline cost money. But there were plenty of other services that did that for free. I suppose it was just because we were computer savy at the time so skype didn't seem like a big deal.
They did do a lot of things right though. Encryption, conference calling, and a lot of devices support.
Anyways, you know who made skype? The same people who brought us Kazaa.
Its odd that keyboards don't have USB on the back of them. Every other peripheral does it seems, but they usually come hard wired.
"You lefties". Thanks for letting me know you have an agenda and are ignorant.
And since you keep bringing it up, what is the history of the kill the white man song, why is it important, and how does it relate today? You keep saying it, so back it up big guy.
You could do that with net2phone using the internet in 1996. Skype doing it 7 years later wasn't that amazing.
Thankfully, we are beyond long distance phone calls (mostly). In the 80's we did something a little different: traded lists of long distance phone codes and made free calls that way.
I get where you are coming from, but I wanted to put that out there. Not for the person I was calling bullshit on, but for everyone else reading this.
You are right though. The only way to get through to anyone is to get them to prove their point of view. Proofs just make them argue in new ways and never learn anything.
I guess I will leave this up as it is done already, but take what you said into consideration for the future.
Skype was good?
Ok so here are the rules:
(a) where the land is not being used and the owner’s main purpose is not to develop the land or use it to generate income, but to benefit from appreciation of its market value;
(b) where an organ of state holds land that it is not using for its core functions and is not reasonably likely to require the land for its future activities in that regard, and the organ of state acquired the land for no consideration;
(c) notwithstanding registration of ownership in terms of the Deeds Registries Act, 1937 (Act No. 47 of 1937), where an owner has abandoned the land by failing to exercise control over it despite being reasonably capable of doing so;
(d) where the market value of the land is equivalent to, or less than, the present value of direct state investment or subsidy in the acquisition and beneficial capital improvement of the land.
In other words, land can be seized without compensation if the owner is not using it, and is rather just waiting for property values to rise in order to sell at a profit.
Yeah sounds horrible.
How is this a genocide?
Stop spreading the bullshit.
Also, you might want to at least consider south African history and who was really fucked for a long time under Apartheid before spouting your crap.
Yeah the block and ban thing these days is really weird.
If someone is harassing you, then I guess it makes sense. But otherwise why do people do that?
Back in the day I just assumed everyone was lying. Or trying to get people worked up, and we called them trolls.
Learning how to ignore the trolls, and not having trust for strangers on the internet, coupled with the ability to basically not care what random people said is a lost art.
Somehow people forgot to give other the people this memo, including the "you don't fucking join social networks as your self". Anonymity makes this all work.
Eternal September newbies just didn't get it.
Fuck Microsoft. We tried to get a open standard and so they created a competing name and standard to confuse and obfuscate (and wasn't really a standard anyone could create).
So they can go get bent.
