The RTS genre will never be mainstream unless you change it until it's 'no longer the kind of RTS that I want to play,' says Crate Entertainment CEO
  • TF is crate ent. on about? They've not even made an RTS, let alone one with love and care out into it? They've got an RPG* (grim dawn) and a city builder (farthest frontier) on steam. Neither come anywhere close to what an RTS is supposed to be, and like others have said, Dune (don't know the specific name), C&C, warcraft and StarCraft we're all impressive mainstream games, all RTS.

Haven't read the post, but what if kind of detached world do they live in?

  • He has though. Its just not on his main channel. I think his podcast is still up and running, and although I haven't checked it lately the mailing service may be as well

  • Thanks for the link! Tom Scott is amazing at explaining things like this :D Its very, very much appreciated!

  • YouTube’s ad blocker crackdown now includes third-party apps
  • That's intended. Even to premium subs youtube pushes adds which try and promote engagement. Its fucking awful.

Does get me out of the loop sometimes though, so I guess Im thankful for that.

  • If you've already got that much of a set-up to guarantee privacy, it's a very good point. Most people aren't that dedicated to privacy (I think), but it's still a very valid point in your case

  • YouTube
  • Point one: I'm pretty certain they already track that. With or without account. And you're on the internet, without a VPN there is no privacy. You are also able to remove that history any moment you want. Is it Ideal? No. But you should've acted 10-15 years prior if you wanted to stop this. It's still not ideal though.

Point two: I agree. There does need to be space for them to repent, but they aren't actively trying to, so don't trust them (see the next point as an example of that).

Point three That's a shame. They really need to fix that, though with how corpos do things nowadays, not sure that'll happen.

Point four: That's normal, expected and a reasonable business decision. Most of these features they likely added after premium, and they're meant as incentives. Why else would you want to but their premium, if not for the added features?

Point five: This is shitty and mostly inexcusable behaviour. It's god awful, and they really shouldn't do it. I do have to play devil's advocate a little. They are fully, 100% in their right to do this. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet (and time). If we stop using their services, they'll stop making it worse. They are still A-holes for doing it though.

  • I'm more aiming at the fact that protesting, the thing unions do to make changes happen, is illegal in a couple of states. Just straight up.

Aside from that I do live in Europe, so I'm a little uninformed of current laws against protesting

  • That's still a quite high position, so while yes, you've got a very good point. His still stands :D

  • To explain the more intuitive, I am literally incapable of using Fahrenheit, and it means fuck all to me. Thus my intuition is incapable of using it, and thus Fahrenheit isn't naturally understandable. Granted, Celcius isn't either.

  • How about just slipperyness? The fact that you can't farm and thus have no reliable food source? The fact your water souce disappears?

I'll admit, no method of measurement is perfect as biomes changes too drastically. This doesn't mean Fahrenheit is better though. It's not more intuitive, it's not better at actual measurements, and it's not as accepted by society ('cause people way smarter than me did find Fahrenheit worse than Celcius (see any above high school science/engineering))
