If you don't work IT, retail, or food service what do you do for work?
  • Solar installer, I put solar panels on things and get them working. Recently my company got a reputation for competence with floating solar arrays so we've been traveling to build and fix them all over the country. Electricity and water is a fun combo.

  • Move over, Ford and Chevy: Kei trucks are pulling up as customers opt for smaller, cheaper vehicles
  • This is true, yet I see a lot of them on the road and speaking for my circle of people I know plenty of people who want them. It's a shame really as I was only left with the civic and that's the same size as my old accord.

  • Average U.S. vehicle age hits record 12.6 years as high prices force people to keep them longer
  • Drove my end of teens car just over 14 years, 230k miles. Transmission finally started to give and honestly for most of its life I treated the car like dog shit, but I learned to do most maintenance myself eventually. I did buy a new 2024 civic and I do love it so far, and it being a Honda I already know how to work on it from my last car. Maybe eventually I'll find time and a bit of budget to fix my old one but realistically for now I have to travel and work.

  • What is the stupidest school rule you've ever had to deal with?
  • I had a teacher like this senior year, finally one time when she made me stand outside I just went out to the parking lot and drove away and never went back to that school. Switched to a virtual program and passed that way.

  • 4000ac solar farm in Texas devastated by hailstorm
  • All the people arguing for nuclear, are you sure Texas is best place to handle that? I'm fine with nuclear as long as they have a reasonable plan to store the waste, but Texas is horrible at managing anything energy related.

  • Two tales of domestication
  • The guy that claimed it later proved it wasn't true and has spent the rest of his life yelling about how he was wrong. With way too many people not listening. Wolves just exist in social groups.

  • rule
  • I don't know everyone on my job sites wear white wide rimmed helmets and the crew owners typically wear the grey carbon fiber helmets, but then again we're mostly electricians.

  • Gen Z and millennial productivity is being crushed by bosses who don’t understand them, top university research says
  • I've been laid off 5 times since I started what was my career over a decade ago. After the second time I learned to always keep a second or third source of income, which meant I never had a day off or a vacation for years. After the 4th time I gave up on corporate jobs but still took a position when a friend offered it to me. This time I will not go back, thankfully my side work of being a handy person landed me a job in the solar industry somehow and the pay is even better than my senior position at the last "career" job.
