What your coffee preparation method says about you
  • You know what, this is really accurate. I won't touch Ubuntu or a pod machine. I will use an old percolator, if necessary, but it's not something I would ever pick over other options. I also bounce between other distros just as often as I bounce between coffee brewing methods!

I wonder where openSUSE falls on this paradigm? Moka pot, maybe?

  • Twitch declares “Zionist” a slur — and a bannable offense
  • "How dare you use a word that means 'genocidal, imperialist, apartheid, ethnostate' in a way that explicitly means 'genocidal, imperialist, apartheid, ethnostate'!" - Twitch, active supporters and enablers of genocidal, imperialist, apartheid ethnostates.

Rules, regulations, or: why am I banned???
  • There is no such thing. It’s just fascism. That they try to call themselves leftist makes no difference to the objective facts or fundamental definitions of the political spectrum.

  • Debate wrap up: No one has ever so thoroughly dominated Donald Trump
  • It's disappointing that all it took for a headline like "no one has ever so thoroughly dominated Donald Trump" was a question-dodging stereotypical politician. I was very frustrated by the entire debate. Trump's word salad and Kamala's deflection kung-fu... but I understand that I am not the only person in the US, so emotionally charged anecdotes instead of clear answers are what wins the day. But still...

  • Moderation conflict involving c/vegan
  • I am not a vegan, but I do try to make food choices that are as ethical and healthy as I can... or at least as far as I can afford.

Cats are carnivores. Fact. This is not debatable. But I think you could also meet or exceed a cats nutritional needs from other sources. Whether those sources are readily available and whether a person is sufficiently meeting those needs... that's another can of worms.

Generally, I'd argue that if you are hell-bent on a vegan diet, then you should not own carnivorous pets. No matter how well meaning you are, there is a significant chance that you will inflict harm on your pet, and that is unacceptable.

  • ELI5: What should I do about the newest privacy stuff in Firefox?
  • PPA, or Privacy Preserving Attribution, is supposed to be a more-private alternative to cross-site tracking. Mozillas idea was: what if we could give advertisers metrics without compromising individuals privacy? Honestly, it doesn’t really impact you as a user or your privacy.

    The problem is:

    1. Sites will continue to use cross-site tracking techniques anyway.

    2. This feature was enabled for everyone without their consent or giving them an option to choose.

    You can disable it, though…

    1. Settings > Privacy & Security > Website Advertising Preferences.

    2. Uncheck “Allow websites to perform privacy-preserving ad measurement”

  • Your TV set has become a digital billboard. And it’s only getting worse.
  • No matter how you feel about Apple in general, Apple TV boxes are really the only way to go these days. Everything else is designed to aggressive sell to you whether you like it or not.

It's either that or use something like a Raspberry Pi and settle for websites, which also have a habit of streaming you lower-quality content.
