  • Anyone here have suggestions/know of an unbiased financial advisor?

We’re paying way too much on car rental now so looking to replace that with our own car.

Tossing up between buying a brand new 2023 Corolla hybrid sedan for $37k driveaway, getting a used 2020 Corolla hybrid hatch with 52000km for $30k driveaway (but my wife and I collectively agree that the 2023 option would be better). From dealer.

Also tossing up between a novated lease vs a People Choice Credit Union car loan (not doing cash anymore). Have trouble doing a true comparison taking into account the balloon payment but from my limited abilities, it seems like the CU is cheaper when factoring in that $11k novated balloon.

  • Today on Melbourne roads:

    • Bicycle rider jumping a speed bump on the wrong side of the road nearly hit us.
    • Doing 105 on the Calder overtaking a bunch of cars doing 90. SUV towing a caravan cuts me off and proceeds to fish tail and nearly lost control a few times.
    • Tonight also on the Calder. Absolutely pissing down so most of us were cruising at 80kmh. Except for that muppet who decided that he could fly past at maybe 120.
    • Doing 80 on a very quiet rural road of some sort. No idea what I did wrong but a bird somehow managed to land a massive shit on our windshield. Of all the places and time they could've shitted, it had to be on us driving past under the tree.
  • Tonight on Melbourne road shenanigans...

Stopped at a red right arrow to the Eastern freeway onramp. Bogan guy behind honks me, sticking his arm out the window waving and shouting expletives at me to go.

Light goes green, so I say to my wife to watch on as he overtakes. And he overtakes rapidly, accelerator to the floor.

  • Receipt printer at my wife's workplace refuses to print. Error light is on.

She starts panicking. So I stroll over and attempted troubleshooting, then rebooted the printer. The report she was trying to print comes out moments later.

That reminds me, a friend's shop a few years ago had a problem where one of their POS terminals refuses to talk to the EFTPOS machine. Again, a quick reboot of both devices dealt with the problem.
