Daily multivitamins do not help people live longer, major study finds
  • Folks on Lemmy seem to love shitting on multivitamins. I brought some about a year ago because I was run down and getting sick all the time. Im a Chef so inconsistent diet and drinking alcohol kind of come with the deal. Anyway nower days I feel more energetic and my immune system seems more robust. The daily multivitamins I take cost $0.25 each.

  • Happiness is a warm Bun [oc]
  • Curious what that'd set you back?

To get something like that where I live here in Melbourne id say you'd need to go to a specialty hot dog spot and would be lucky to pay less than AU$18 (US$12)

Looks good tho id probably pay it.

  • Open Source apps to monitor the best-before dates of foods?
  • I think the opposite is true with spices. They're so dry it would be uncommon for them to ever spoil like fresh foods would, but over time their aroma and taste weaken to the point that there's really no point in using them.

  • People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets?
  • I used to get sick a lot, sore throats and colds at least a few times every winter and occasionally in the warmer months too. Since I started taking a daily multivitamin about 12 months ago I haven't really gotten sick since. I swear even hangovers aren't as bad these days. It's really remarkable, id recommend anyone give it a go.

  • Victoria [Australia] bans gas rebates and incentives for homes as shift to all-electric gathers pace
  • Genuinely good info, I've never come across a unit with knobs and a good ceramic hob would go a long way to helping my slow cooking gripes.

Maybe the induction I've used have just been crappy. One turned itself off after 10 hours because who could possibly want to cook something for longer than that?

Will definitely keep your words in mind next time I look at induction equipment!

  • While I agree with the simplicity of cleaning and quick heating the induction cooktops I've used have had drawbacks.

One had a touch panel control that would switch the whole range off and lock itself it it got wet. I've also yet to see one that does very low temperatures well, they seem to just click on and off thermostat style which isnt what I like for slow cooking.

And at the end of the day it's just a personal thing, I like seeing the flame. The simplicity of it. I like the analogue the controls. I just find it satisfying.

Progress is progress and induction cooking with solar power may be the way of the future, but I don't think its accurate to say there are no drawbacks to making the switch.
