Is there any christian religions that don't believe in space?
  • So she insists she believes the word says the world is spherical but that there is a dome in the sky. I think she got bored halfway through the video after they stopped talking about the stuff from the bible. I see that the firmament is real but as someone who was raised catholic I assumed all religions agreed that it was a metaphysical barrier between heaven and earth. After reading through the comments here I feel like she probably got this from YouTube/ticktock and not from her church.

  • To be clear I couldn't get a hit on a religion believing it is a solid impassable dome in the sky. I got hits on flat earther crap that sadly I knew about because another family member was a full fledged flat earther..... (These are all in-laws BTW). I also found the bible definition which only states that the firmament is a barrier between heaven and earth. I am mostly just trying to figure out where she got this nonsense from and I suspect it was going down a rabbit hole on YouTube that led to a flat earth video using the bible as evidence of the flat earth. She has a short attention span so she probably stopped paying attention after the part where they said the sky is a dome because she said the earth is round.

So I have a born again christian family member in their mid twenties who stated with complete confidence that there is a dome in the sky called the firmament and beyond it is where heaven is. She believes space doesn't exist and rockets just blow up because the bible said so. She is not the brightest and normally I would let this sort of nonsense go but I work in aerospace and have multiple pieces of hardware in space so she is either calling me ignorant or a malicious agent for the devil purposely lying for her so I got pretty annoyed. I can't find anything about this dome in a google search about religion and I suspect she ended up on a flat-earth YouTube channel that twisted a line in the bible to fit their beliefs and didn't actually get it from her church. I know its probably hopeless to help her understand how dumb and frankly insulting this belief is but I can possibly talk some reason if I understand the source.

Are there any major or minor religions, christian or other that believe space is a lie and only god is outside our atmosphere?

Is it legal to be out in public in just underwear?
  • So is it illegal to be in Washington to intentially arouse others fully clothed?

And what about unintentionally arousal? Like can you not be shirtless if you are so hot that your body puts others into heat?

  • First room temperature and pressure superconductor discovered
  • No need for name calling. I have a masters in mechanical engineering and am working on a cryogenic space radiator for work. Its being pretty semantic to say "well ac-tually 127C is way above room temperature, so this article is invalid and the breakthrough is irrelevant." My point is that a significantly smaller system can be produced to run at 127C that's normal industrial equipment and some hotter electrical equipment levels that doesn't require a large power helium cryocooler system to run continuously, like many devices that use superconductors today need.

  • First room temperature and pressure superconductor discovered
  • The important thing is that a device could be that temperature in a regular room without insulation or really particularly special components. Yeah its above room temperature but so is my desktop processor.

  • Thousands of authors demand payment from AI companies for use of copyrighted works
  • While I am rooting for authors to make sure they get what they deserve, I feel like there is a bit of a parallel to textbooks here. As an engineer if I learn about statics from a text book and then go use that knowledge to he'll design a bridge that I and my company profit from, the textbook company can't sue. If my textbook has a detailed example for how to build a new bridge across the Tacoma Narrows, and I use all of the same design parameters for a real Tacoma Narrows bridge, that may have much more of a case.

  • Point Valuations

So I am always curious to hear how folks value points in different reward systems. I think many of the card reviewers greatly overvalue points based on booking ridiculously overpriced international first class tickets at a fraction of the cost, but still 2x-3x or more what you would pay for an economy ticket. Here is how I would value the point systems I have had cards for:

    • Amex MR: 1.2 ¢/pt
      • I generally will transfer points to domestic or international economy flights or to hotels when I can get at least 1 ¢/pt. The CS platinum sets a good minimum redemption rate.
    • Chase UR: 1.6 ¢/pt
      • Assuming CSR. May get better rates for Hyatt and occasionally economy flights, but portal bonus/PYB set the minimum
    • Marriott Bonvoy: 0.67 ¢/pt
      • Based on what I typically see scrolling through the site.
    • Hilton Honors: 0.5 ¢/pt
      • Based on what I typically see scrolling through the site.
    • Hyatt: 1.67 ¢/pt
      • Can be higher but the options are more limited.
    • Delta Miles: 1.2 ¢/pt
      • Based on what I typically see scrolling through the site. Sometimes there are good deals on partner flights internationally.

That all said I mainly use the Amex trifecta because I can earn MR at a fast enough rate to make up for the lower valuation and I can use the credits effectively.

    How do you value points?
