Mobile roaming: EE prompts anger as it increases price by 150% | Mobile phones | The Guardian
  • I'm in Northern Ireland and haven't heard of a single company that dropped free EU roaming.

  • What do you like about the vehicle you drive and would you have changed anythin about it?
  • I've a wee 2016 1.2tsi manual skoda fabia. I really like it, think the dashboards layed out perfectly, everything intuitive to use, the AC is simple to adjust, its reasonably efficient, and is the right size for me.

I'd prefer insurance companies to stop taking the piss with the prices, I've never hit anything or got any points, its literally just because I'm a young man. I'd also prefer there to be a little more space between the clutch and side wall in the footwell as I have wide feet and its easy to clip the clutch when putting my left foot on the foot rest.

  • Netflix plans to release a game within the “Grand Theft Auto” series as part of a licensing deal for the Netflix Games portfolio.
  • I ain't for going back to Netflix until they let me download shows offline on Linux. Seriously I paid for it, why can't I do that.

  • Counter-Strike 2 has a lower rating than any other Valve game, ever
  • Completey freezes a few seconds after I open it (arch + 3050ti), even just in the main menu, requiring a full restart.

  • What are your favorite podcasts?
  • Well all I'm going to say is RIP Hello Internet

  • really, you coul rent ultra po*n
  • Almost everything I just put 01.01.2000 because quite frankly websites have no business knowing my actual birthday.

  • Apple removes app created by Andrew Tate
  • I agree, however they also don't allow sideloading as far as I know. I think there's a distinction between policing whats on your store, and what users can install from anywhere.

  • About electric vehicle. If you add the maintenance cost for battery, how does it fair compare to gasoline vehicle? On cost we have to pay.
  • Ah completely forgot about regenerative braking! I thought the main reason it needed changed was due to age and water absorbance rather than usage though, but again if regenerative brakes are used heavily then the regular brakes losing a little efficiency is a lot less of a deal.

  • About electric vehicle. If you add the maintenance cost for battery, how does it fair compare to gasoline vehicle? On cost we have to pay.
  • Do electric cars not have brake fluid? Should that not be being changed soon in it if you've had it 5 years.

  • Craziest/most "exotic" devices able to run Linux?
  • I loved that thing as a kid, I'd completely forgotten about it!'.

  • What is your favorite non-alcoholic beer?
  • Guinness 0 is remarkably good I have to say.

  • Why are maglev trains still rare?
  • More likely just the shear cost of building the tracks.

  • Why has the world started to mine coal again?
  • Seriously? I didn't know it was anywhere near that low. That's great assuming they haven't just replaced it with gas or something similar, although gas is supposed to be better than coal.

  • Why has the world started to mine coal again?
  • Will renewables ever be viable in countries like the UK or Ireland, where there isn't actually a whole lot of land for things like solar and wind?

  • Would you live in a rural area?
  • In a lot of places the internet is there, but realistically the public transport never will be. It would cost so much to provide a service in every rural area that 3 people use that its totally infeasible. I think this is the situation where cars make sense, for people where public transport isn't a realistic option.

  • Why do so many Lemmy instances use weird TLDs?
  • .ie is another one, you can't get them from a lot of registrars and have to prove you're genuinely based in Ireland.

  • I LOVE MANUAL TRANSMISSION
  • On flat ground, agreed. On a hill, my car just doesnt have the power to do that without some gas.

  • I LOVE MANUAL TRANSMISSION
  • Because the manual transmission changes the entire experience of driving it, whereas a manual choke or ignition only changes starting it.

Some people (including myself) just find it more enjoyable to drive a manual. I feel more connected to the car, like its doing exactly what I want it to, and I feel like I've done something when I've driven home rev matching gears perfectly.

It's just about preference at the end of the day, but I do find manuals more fun.

  • A white man fatally shoots 3 Black people at a Florida store in a hate crime, then kills himself
  • Personally I think the only thing that makes sense is consistency, either White/Black or white/black, that way everyone's equal. To me it doesn't matter which, so long as it's consistent.

  • Does anyone else have problems with F-Droid apps?

I want to use F-Droid to download as many apps as possible for my phone, the only thing is I seem to have consistent issues with them. The ones that come to mind from the last week are as follows. They worked when installed from google play (irritatingly)

KDEConnect: Wouldn't download on F-Droid AntennaPod: Notification remote wouldn't appear a lot of the time and it wouldn't work with android auto

Which way round is a wired computer mouse?

Is the front of a computer mouse the arse of it due to the cable "tail" coming out of it, or is the front of a computer mouse the head of the mouse, as it is more of a correct shape?

    Mental health and therapy.

I've had a problem for a while with my mental health. Randomly getting really depressed (generally in the evening and I'm sure its not random, but I've no idea why), dealing with stress in pretty bad ways (cutting myself and isolating myself from others generally), and suicidal thoughts occasionally.

I want to go to therapy, but I'm really worried about it. My family can't know about any of it (I'm 18+ so hopefully that's not as issue anyway), and I'm really worried about being put in a psyche ward because of the self harm and suicidal thoughts. I really really don't want that to happen. What should I do?

Edit: Should've mentioned, I'm in the UK, probably moving to Ireland in August though.

John Bannister Goodenough, the American co-inventor of Lithium-ion batteries and a co-winner of 2019 Nobel prize for Chemistry, has passed away. He was just a month short of turning 101. Goodenough also played a significant role in the development of Random Access Memory (RAM) for computers.

Why are there so many stop signs on American streets?

I'm from the UK where in general there's only a stop sign if it's needed, such as a junction where you can see absolutely nothing on one side. Otherwise usually there's a give way line instead, to let people slow the car right down to look, but not need to stop if it's unnecessary.

Whenever I see a video of an American street, it seems like there's a stop sign everywhere I'd expect there to be a give way line. Surely this is inefficient as stopping and starting increases emissions, and stops the flow of traffic.

Is it really just the American government doesn't expect drivers to look properly? Is it so the police can give people tickets for not quite stopping but still doing the junction completely safely?

How do I make alt tab pass through to an app instead of switching windows?

I'm trying to run a qemu VM (kde host, kde guest), whenever I click alt-tab with the VM in full screen, I want the alt-tab to affect the VM and not the host at all.

Anyone know how you'd go about this?

[Edit]: Found it, I needed the Grab on Hover option in Qemu
