As a human, here is my human take on unions
  • Unions can be useful.... I have a friend who after 30 years would clearly be fired and replaced by three new employees with no experience because, to a director it looks like he or she saved money and so can be guaranteed a promotion.....

Where I disagree with Unions is that they have no accountability. If they negociate a scrappy deal or employees get no salary increase, they should give back to the employee as a padding or a rainy day situation considering union members do continue to pay the ever increasing fee of union membership.

I see unions here in Quebec(Canada) becoming fabulously rich while their scrape by...

Just look at companies that have seamstresses, they will offer full suits for the higher strata of society and yet the working conditions are like sweat shops.... And they are unionized which makes you wonder how bad it could get....

It feels, from my perspective that unions are useful so long as people can opt out and vote anonymously which is not always the case....

  • "Have a duty to shareholders to maximize profits" musk is scurd.
  • What would be the misinformation? A typical working family in the 1970 could survive and feed their family. Today, a working family barely make enough money to pay for rent.

If CEO deserve their pay (hypothetically) then why would the employee not equally get higher salary increase?

Please explain how business have not, at least in the last 30 years, focused on gaining high profit for shareholders and care very little of the consumer or the workers.

A CEO goal is not to serve the board to the point of ripping a business apart. In that same breath, a Board should actually be held accountable to not pillage companies to simply increase their already big portfolio...

  • "Have a duty to shareholders to maximize profits" musk is scurd.
  • If this was true....Nd I wouldn't be surprised that he would sya such a thing as... Making profit for the share holders. Is justified even if ruthlessly done....

I remember watching a documentary, it may have been Robert Reich that was explaining how businesses in the 1970's made profits but the difference between the owner and the employee was high but still within a certain logic. Companies still had the philosophy that you should keep your employees for 30 years and treat them with a certain respect whereas today... A lot of big business are there for the shareholder and screw the employee. They are selfish anyway.... Wanting more than minimal salary 🙄

Then again, I love reading Robert Reich.... https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-paid-what-youre-worth-myth

  • Which CEOs are actually worth keeping around?
  • I get what your saying... I worked for an IT business where the CEO had his desk with the rest of us and really.... He came from a farming background... He essentially tried his best to be as fair as he could and I never saw anything that was elitist in his attitude...

He I worked at Saputo, Mr Saputo and his son were k incredibly generous with all of their employees... We had amazing 7 course meals and there was at least 1000 of us eating there... As he invited all employees at the party. I actually enjoyed meeting the men and women working in factories as it helped me better understand the issues they encountered... (as a security guy I always tried to put myself In the place of the those who have to live with the security policies....)

Then again, I was a welder in another life before that which probably has given me a better perspective....

All. I am saying is that a lot of CEO can be bastard but again.... I don't think it's fair to say that they all are when I fact the problem are those who are essentially millionaires and billionaires that are essentially squeezing their employees of all their health and money just to make more money even though they are already fabously rich.

That is what I hate of those hyper rich people.... They don't need the money, it's like trying to add 5inches of peanut butter on a slice of bread... It's just a sloppy mess and everyone suffers as the rest won't get their fair share....

  • Which CEOs are actually worth keeping around?
  • I would rather focus on billionaire and millionaire than CEO since both are not automatically interchangeable.... .

You can be a CEO In a small business without being a millionaire of the same category as the one of United HealthCare

  • Most Canadians would avoid buying U.S. products post-Trump tariff: Nanos survey
  • Well.... Would we bring back jobs such as producing copper pipes....

We mine it and send it to China and pay incredibly high prices for a product that we produce in vast quantities....

The same goes for clothing and food let's face it...

We produce enough dairy for our needs, the smae for wheat and wood....

So... We could be auto sufficient.... But prices would rise... But jobs would also be in higher quantities

  • Should we create a new political party in the US, specifically for shitting on the rich?
  • Well I think the real question should be, why isn't the democratic party being sued for preventing other political parties from presenting themselves....

The issue is that with a two party system it permits bit sides to take its population for granted..... No real competition

  • Je pense aussi au fait que les municipalités ont des employés ayant des salaires qui sont incroyables...

Notre maîtresse de Longueuil est payé le même salaire ou à peu près à celui du premier ministre du Québec.....

This is the problem, such individuals will delight in pushing their agenda on kids...

  • Moderators delete Reddit thread as doctors torch dead UnitedHealthcare CEO
  • Lol of I was with that CEO in the trolley I would have probably pushed him off a long time ago, sticks or not....

I do believe that billionaires are evidence of abuse to the extreme.

I do not see the difference between a billionaire and a slave owner because in actuality as most people have said previously, they have gained their wealth through the suffering of others.

I wish the government would tax them for at least a fifth of there salary considering no one needs a billion dollar to live, it's pure fantasy

  • Moderators delete Reddit thread as doctors torch dead UnitedHealthcare CEO
  • @Donkter@lemmy.world Well... I hope to find one, honestly.... I really don't know. I just don't feel comfortable with glorifying murder, even if the CEO deserved it.

I hope someone that is smarter then I am will find a better way that won't throw the United States into further division.... My concern is that Billionaires will use this murder as an excuse to hire private militias (not the cops but mercenaries like black water) which would lead to civil war.... Perhaps far fetched..... Who knows
