iPhone 16 and 16 Pro review: A worthy upgrade after three years
  • I think the point about the 3 year upgrade cycle being optimal unless you are a real enthusiast is right on the money. I’d say I’m moderately interested in tech improvements in this space and it seems ideal for me as I will be considering an upgrade from an iPhone 13 Pro (likely informed by how gimmicky or actually useful the Apple Intelligence stuff becomes and if I can offload my ChatGPT Pro subscription). If you’re really not a huge phone tech person or looking for the best camera quality then every 4 years is probably completely reasonable as well. At that point, the battery life is probably starting to suffer as well..

  • The one accesory I would recommend with the Deck
  • Can you clarify what the problem is that this solves? Your charging cable wiggles too much when it is plugged into the top? If so, I don’t appear to have that issue at least that I’ve noticed.

  • This Is Why You Can't Get ADHD Treatment
  • What a well-timed and interesting video. I just saw my doctor earlier today and we discussed medications to address my anxiety which appears to be exacerbated or induced by ADHD. He told me about the difficulties getting stimulant drugs and ended up prescribing bupropion (Wellbutrin) instead partly due to this issue. He did not make any mention of the role that the DEA or the profiteering of drug companies has apparently played in this situation.

  • How do you sort your view on Lemmy, mostly?
  • Tend to start with top (day) for my subs and then switch to scaled once I get down to posts that are below 100 upvotes or so to see more posts from smaller communities that can’t make that ‘top’ cut.

  • Mullvad VPN or Proton VPN?
  • Or you already use Proton Mail / Drive etc and want to save a bit of money with Proton Unlimited at 9.99 EUR/USD / mo. That’s why I switched from Mullvad. I do agree that overall though Mullvad is the best in terms of trustworthiness (so far as we know anyway)

  • Alright longboarders: I know you're out there and I need your advice.
  • Yeah didn’t even think about the drop through trucks. I feel like they are a lot nicer because you ride much closer to the ground. Feels smoother and easier to push long distances with the lower center of gravity. From what I recall, longboards use a reverse kingpin set up compared to the normal kingpin trucks on short boards and that makes them feel looser and more surfy as well but just be aware it is going to feel quite a bit different to a short board. You won’t find yourself having to pivot the board around nearly as much which is nice.

  • Alright longboarders: I know you're out there and I need your advice.
  • I have been into longboarding off and on for the past few years and I have loved my Maestro Pro from Bustin. I don’t do any dance or tricks, just commuting and cruising. Honestly, I feel like you don’t necessarily even need a symmetrical board if you’re not into tricks though but this one would be a good option if you do want one. If you’re on the fence sign up for their newsletter and wait for a sale. They also make these cool hybrid boards which are pushable but also have electric assist but they’re a bit too pricey for me.

  • Sanders Pushes Harris to Pursue Agenda That 'Speaks to the Needs of the Working Class'.
  • This kind of technocratic approach can sound great and it’s always good to have policy and positions formed by those most knowledgeable in the relevant field. The problem is that the “experts” that will likely have her ear will be the ones that are vetted and approved by the power elite, the wealthiest in this country who will largely recommend what is best to protect their privilege, wealth and position.

  • Josh Shapiro and Mark Kelly said to be leading VP candidates for Harris
  • Agreed, but it’s not gonna happen. Too far left, two demonized by the right and I don’t think they want two women on the ticket. It’s 2024 and sad to say it will still be hard enough to overcome sexism for many voters just for Harris.

  • Replication crisis
  • Very interesting. I wonder if there is any website or resource that would allow a layperson to see how a specific study or even concept is considered by scientists in the relevant field. I think there are plenty of articles about studies that get a lot of traction on social media or even in traditional media that are perhaps quite preliminary or are not well designed and very quickly a good chunk of the population is using them to extrapolate way too much and considering it borderline gospel. It would be great to have some kind of a resource where you could look up a specific study and have scientists commenting or rating any concerns around reliability or replicability or the overall impact of the study.

  • Day 3 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • TBH This might be a good enough idea to merit a whole community of people just posting singular cool screenshots of games they are playing. Could be a cool low-effort visual way to document what folks are into at the moment. Kind of like a visual version of those ‘what are you playing’ weekly threads that used to be everywhere.

  • FCC closes “final loopholes” that keep prison phone prices exorbitantly high
  • This is the kind of news that should actually be posted on all of the ‘uplifting news’ communities, instead of ‘teen works 600 hours for minimum wage to help pay for his mother’s dialysis’ or whatever..

  • Elden Ring – Patch Notes Version 1.12.3
  • Been having fun and happy to see a gameplay balance patch so soon. That said, the technical side of this game is what really needs work and according to everything I’ve been seeing from Digital Foundry and others there’s some serious low hanging fruit that could improve the frame rate and pacing that is still pretty poor on all systems. Hopefully they bring some attention to that side of things soon. Game is certainly playable in the current state in my opinion but would be much more enjoyable if it actually stuck to something close to 60 FPS in most situations on XSX/PS5.

  • How often do you have conversations with an LLM AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc?)
  • Maybe 1-3 times a day. I find that the newest version of ChatGPT (4o) typically returns answers that are faster and better quality than a search engine inquiry, especially for inquiries that have a bit more conceptualization required or are more bespoke (i.e give me recipes to use up these 3 ingredients etc) so it has replaced search engines for me in those cases.

    > Boebert finishes fifth in straw poll of new district > > Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) came in fifth place in a straw poll of voters in the district where the controversial congresswoman recently relocated and is trying to win reelection to the House. > > Boebert, who was first elected to represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in 2020, announced last month she would switch districts and instead run for reelection this year in the 4th District, after its House member, Rep. Ken Buck (R), decided to retire from Congress. > > The new district for Boebert would likely give her a significantly better chance at reelection if she wins the Republican nomination. She currently represents a swing district, and Boebert had seemed likely before her switch to face off a second time against Democrat Adam Frisch, whom she defeated in 2022 by fewer than 600 votes. > > The 4th District, meanwhile, is a solidly Republican district that has elected a Democratic House member only once in the past 50 years. > > But the results of the straw poll Thursday, which followed the first debate among GOP candidates running for that district, indicates Boebert may have an uphill battle.

YSK about the app Yuka which lets you scan food and cosmetics to identify harmful chemicals or additives
yuka.io Yuka - The mobile app that scans your diet and cosmetics

Yuka is a mobile application that scan food products to get clear information on the health impact of the products you consume.

The app gives a score out of 100 for each product scanned based on how healthy or harmful it may be and offers alternative products which may be healthier. The developers do not sell ads or user data and have a no influence policy which prevents brands from paying to place their products in the app. There is a premium version which is sold on a sliding scale (pay what you want) and it offers the ability to search for products or save the data to search offline and a few other things but the free version is totally functional for checking products at home or at the store.

This wasp is half the size of an amoeba and its microscopic brain has a trick up its sleeve..

    !

    > These wasps are not single-celled organisms though, and their brains alone contain 4600 neurons. For reference, the brain of a honeybee contains ~1 million neurons. Despite their extremely small heads (again, look at that head next to the SINGLE CELLED amoeba) the wasps can still fly, seek out mates, and find thrip eggs to parasitize. So…what? How?
