Biden's 5 year plan
  • I don't agree with either, tbh. I don't support the latest tweet because I don't believe America needs to "lead the world" in EVs or solar panels, it's American exceptionalist nonsense.

Also, tariffs don't necessarily mean American people pay for it. China doesn't pay for tariffs, obviously. They can sell to other countries or for domestic use instead if Americans don't wish to import their goods.

If the tariffs are imposed along with an increased state role in domestic production of EVs and solar panels, with proper planning like China did, the U.S. could achieve domestic production of the same quality in long run.

But in reality, there won't be any proper planning. The U.S. government is incompetent. So, you'll end up having inferior, overpriced cars.

  • Sticking to tough spending rules in order to deliver economic stability

Code for austerity, some arbitrary cap on fiscal deficit.

Setting up Great British Energy, a publicly owned clean power energy company

How could that be done if spending rules are 'tough'? By raising taxes on the rich? I highly doubt that even with the higher taxes, the Government would be able to raise enough revenues to 'fund' a green transition.

Cutting NHS waiting lists by providing 40,000 more appointments each week - funded by tackling tax avoidance and non-dom loopholes.

NHS would require a shit ton more spending than whatever could be raised by tackling tax avoidance. Decades of austerity has to be compensated for.

Launching a border security command to stop the gangs arranging small boat crossings

Hitler particles detected. How will the security command be paid for? NHS has to be funded by 'tackling tax avoidance' but funds for border security never need to be 'raised'.

Providing more neighbourhood police officers to reduce antisocial behaviour and introduced new penalties for offenders

What is antisocial behaviour? Loitering? Also how are revenues for police officers raised? Every bit of welfare has to be 'paid for' by raising taxes or whatever but there is no mention of how police officer salaries would be paid for.

Recruiting 6,500 teachers, paid for through ending tax breaks for private schools.

Its fascinating how he can't just say 'Recruiting 6,500 teachers', he has to 'pay for it' with something else. Why do private schools exist in the first place?

This is so bad, Starmer is really showing that he is not different from the Tories.

Yes ik capital gains tax comes in when you sell the asset for fiat currency. However there is nothing preventing the Government from directly putting a tax bill on appreciating crypto before sale (mark to market).

Another example would be property tax. How would you pay for the property tax for the building you have your mining farm in assuming you don't sell bitcoin.

Looks like they remove 'real' criticisms as well, funny because they removed TeddyKila's comment for:

  • I agree, I do not know if is deliberate or not but there are other ways to prevent spam that doesn't require email verification. Like restricting ability to post/comment for some time or only allowing them to post after x number of comments etc.

In fact, reddit doesn't really have a strict email verification. you can type in whatever email you want when registering, verification is optional (idk if they changed it recently though).

They seem to have the questionnaire thing but no captcha for registration. I love that one of the 'golden rules' is 'No Tankie bullshit.' with a wikipedia article for tankie.

Where is the option to keep pre-Oct 7th status quo?

Or a referendum asking Gazans themselves whether they want new elections to be held (with Israel playing no part in it).

    40 day scamaz
    article

Speaking in Riyadh, UK foreign secretary Cameron says there is a “generous” offer of a sustained 40-day ceasefire in Gaza, in exchange for the release of captives.

“The current proposal before Hamas includes the release of potentially thousands of Palestinian prisoners,” he says.

“I hope Hamas accepts the proposal in front of them,” he adds, saying that the war won’t end until all the captives are released.

Cameron also says that the Hamas leadership and those responsible for the October 7 attack need to leave Gaza in order “to have a political horizon for a two-state solution”.

Hamas has repeatedly said that it wants a permanent end to the fighting, which has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians.

    "Generous"

Anything but a permanent ceasefire is meaningless.

"U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris demanded Hamas agree to an immediate six-week ceasefire while urging Israel to do more to boost aid deliveries to Gaza. “"

40 days isn't even the shitty six week ceasefire which Kamala was talking about.
