Introducing Alexandrite for Lemmy, a desktop-first alternative web UI
  • Well done! Looks great for me and it is a nice alternative to the "classic" look! I am already really happy with it, you did a great job! Others have already mentioned some features they would like, so I got nothing to add on that front except maybe a few customization options like color themes or compact/big picture mode. But maybe it exists and I haven't found it yet. Anyway, really great job and it is fun to use lemmy with this!

  • What's the best Android/iPhone app for Lemmy?
  • Iphone: Try out Mlemmy & Thunder. But also give the wefwef.app a chance (just open it in your safari browser and make it a home screen link). All great choices with really good potential.

  • So, what's up? Everyone doing good? How was your day?
  • Two days ago I let my heavy glas water bottle drop right on my left foot, so that it bruised and bled right away. Today I get an Amazon delivery and I know the guy just rings once, waits a couple of seconds and then leaves. So I ran to the door, but I slipped and I hit my right foot on the door full speed. Both my feet hurt while walking. I am having a day in bed now. Hope your days have been better, folks.

  • It’s true
  • I think it depends which one you take, how open they are for external software. But with Firesticks or cubes you can do 100%. With others it might be worth googling beforehand, if Stremio can be installed on that specific tv box you choose. On those boxes you just need Stremio as an app. The app on your box then syncs with the settings and addons you have in the desktop version, so no hassle.

  • It’s true
  • The easiest would probably getting a FireStick and just putting stremio as an app there. So your girlfriend can always go to the same place and find all of her shows/movies in great quality in one spot.

  • It’s true
  • This is a guide that someone on Reddit wrote and it helped me a lot. It looks complicated with the first glance, but when you do the steps it takes less than 15 minutes. I changed the order of the original slightly and added a few infos to make it easier:

"Guide installing Stremio with Torrentio and Real Debird on your desktop.

    Stremio

Go to https://www.stremio.com/ Download the relevant client for your platform (Windows/Mac/Linux) Open Stremio and sign up with email or facebook

    Real Debird

Go to https://real-debrid.com/ Sign up Go to Premium Offers ($3 for one month, $16 for 6 months) Choose a package and subscribe

    Torrentio

Go to https://torrentio.strem.fun/configure Choose your options for providers, quality, foreign language etc You can now choose to install Torrentio without a Debid Provider. Personally I use Real Debrid to connect directly to a server vs having my IP shared in peer to peer and to speed up performance. Torrentio has a slot for a possible API key (the Real Debrid key) To install with Real Debrid follow the next steps: Go to the API key with this link: https://real-debrid.com/apitoken Copy the API Key and go back to Torrentio and paste it under RealDebird API Key Install

    Stremio with Torrentio installed

Check the addon installed correctly Click the puzzle piece up on the top right that says 'Show All Addons' Click My Addons and scroll until you see Torrentio Test stream a movie or TV show Go to Discover Click on a Movie or TV show and click 'Show' You should now see [RB+] Torrentio - Quality Enjoy streaming"

  • It’s true
  • Streaming companies are lucky that not more people know about Stremio + Torrentio + Real Debrid. That combination is a game changer and allowed me to get rid of all streaming services.

  • Thunder: A new app for Lemmy
  • I have just read about it in a different comment as well, tried it and it does feel a bit like coming home. Thank you for recommending it to me as well, it's wonderful to see that it gets easier and easier to take part here!

  • Best VPNs
  • I had a few different ones (Surfshark, Mullvad, Vypr), but in the end I just really liked Proton the most. It is not the cheapest, but the UI of their software is easy, I can use it on all my devices (including fire stick), it works well with streaming services like Netflix and I recently upgraded to pay 2€ more per month and now I got a cloud drive of 500GB, some mail adresses and other stuff on top. I can recommend it because for me it just works flawlessly and the speed is good.
