Digimon World - New General Megathread for the 28th-29th of September 2024
  • Digimon World is fun vibes when things are actually going, but a huge part of the game is training your digimon, which involves sitting and just watching them do repetitive stuff for long periods of time (getting punched by a gigantic boxing glove to level defense, sitting under a waterfall to level focus or whatever the stats were, etc).

You might be doing that for a very long while, only for your digimon to evolve into a literal giant turd.

If you get a good champion evolution you can start breaking out into the broader world, which is actually pretty fun. The game has great vibes, and a fun gameplay loop of journeying out of the main village to find lost villagers and send them back, which in turn upgrades the village (residents return and open up shops or provide special services).

But it always suffers from having to go back to that damn training grounds for long stretches. Maybe if there's a modded PC version that solves that problem, that would be best.

  • Legalizing Sports Gambling Was a Huge Mistake
  • I forget the exact stats on it, but gambling addiction is especially destructive to people's lives even compared with other major addictions. Also, on a petty treat-fiend note, it has made sports so much fucking shittier.

  • Democrats Spend Millions to Kick Third Parties off the Ballot for the 2024 Presidential Election
  • I've been unhealthily pouring over stuff from 2016 because I got super pissed at liberals and had to fight off their gaslighting bullshit. In the process I ended up looking at the votes by state, and in many of the states Trump won, you could add all the 3rd party votes to Hillary and she'd still lose.

Fun fact relating to Jill Stein brain-worms: the only state where Jill Stein's votes could have made a difference between Trump and Hillary taking it was Michigan, which still would not have given her enough electoral college votes to win the presidency.

  • Wow based on what people on Twitter are saying, these "tankies" must be a really powerful voting bloc in the US
  • One of the wildest things to me is that they can't even be bothered to lie for our support. Like, they could literally just lie and get a lot of leftists on their side, but they'd rather tell us to suck their unwashed balls than even pay the slightest lip-service, and then get pissed at us later if they lose.

  • Wow based on what people on Twitter are saying, these "tankies" must be a really powerful voting bloc in the US
  • I drove myself mad last night reading some jackass thread of liberals still invoking 2016, in this particularly gross case, to blame the left (and anyone else who they thought didn't support Clinton) for the state-murder of Marcellus Williams.

Like jesus fucking Christ, not only is that vile and nonsensical, but it's stupid in any practical sense not to do something to win the votes of these people who you (wrongly) think cost you everything.

Act like you're trying to build and maintain a relationship where the other person has the freedom to leave and isn't a goddamn slave to you!

Pretend that you believe in democracy instead of acting entitled to people's support when you offer them nothing but blame when an election goes badly for you!

  • Dang what could possibly explain this phenomenon???????
  • That's John Mearsheimer's big case for immigration. He talks about how developed countries get that "inverted pyramid" demographic spread (lots of old people, low birthrate, fewer young people) and how immigration is actually America's edge over China and Russia in that regard.

    America pisses it away, again.

  • I think there's something to say about people getting lost a bit in the day-to-day stories and details. Whatever the most recent story is, is not always the most important thing in the course of the overall conflict.

It's happened several times with Ukraine as well. People's brains are too wired for immediacy when it comes to things that take a (miserably) long time to shake out.

erm akshually my genetically superior soul prevents me from being born into such a mongrel caste. ☝️🤓
  • Maybe this is shitty of me, but some chuds just seem really fucking stupid. The amount of people asserting we "have no frame of reference for what it is like to be Haitian," and therefore the hypothetical is invalid, is making me want to shit blood.

For my sanity: the point of reference for being Haitian is the lives and existence of Haitian people, which can be observed and engaged with even by non-Haitians.

Also just as trolling material for "race-realist" IQ-dorks: "Bright minds and dark attitudes: lower cognitive ability predicts greater prejudice through right-wing ideology and low intergroup contact" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22222219/

  • (rant) I can't find any discussion of this and I feel like I'm going crazy: Execution moves in Warhammer 40k: Space Marine (2011) PC version vs Xbox 360

The PC version of Space Marine fundamentally fucked up the gameplay -- the execution system works differently (and worse) from the original console release, and nobody has ever talked about it somehow.

Alternatively, it's possible the game always sucked and I had the only good version of it due to a unique bug on my 360 disc. Like, that shit ain't the same way it was on my 360 version. I checked. It's different.

Space Marine requires the player to use special "execution" moves on enemies to regain health, like DOOM 2016, but years before that. A key detail is that you are not invulnerable while you do the kill animations. This brings us to the key difference that makes the game dookie on PC:

On the 360 version, or at least the particular disc I have, you cannot outright die during the animation. You can still take damage, and you can still take so much damage that it ends up being a bad choice, so there's still a worthy risk-reward consideration, but you can't outright fucking die during the animation.

It was still totally possible to die literally seconds after the animation finished, such as if you regain less health than you lost during the animation, but the animation had to at least finish.

This created exciting battles where you'd be basically riding a wave of execution moves to keep yourself alive while under constant assault. Like, you're barely keeping your head above water, chaining from one "safe" point to another -- just gotta stun somebody and reach them before you outright die and you're secure for another few seconds. It felt really cool actually.

On the PC version, you can and likely will die frequently during the kill animations, making it shit. It's just annoying shit now, and feels super cheap and unfair, especially since the kill animations have different lengths, and you can't choose. Best is when you die right before it's about to finish and give you the health you wanted in the first place.

This doesn't even start to become too noticeable until the second half of the game where the Chaos dickheads start showing up, and the little renegade guardsmen absolutely light your shit up with their rifles even on normal -- they're scarier than the chaos marines or the demons.

And the protagonist has to drop some fucking Dove chocolate-ass "live-laugh-love (The Emperor)" line every time he dies, making it take just a little bit longer than it needs to to get back into the game.

With this change (or bug, or lack of a bug, whatever causes this) the second half of the game (which used to be my favorite part) goes from being a solid action beat-em-up affair to a 3rd-rate 3rd person shooter with no cover mechanic against enemies that start Gears-of-War-ing your ass.

If this is how the game was always supposed to be, good god what a turd. If they changed the game, good god what dumb-asses. Did I seriously get the only good version of the game years ago, due to a unique bug on the 360 disc? I have no clue, it's so fucking weird.
