PC sometimes won't turn on until I unplug it from the wall for a 30 seconds or so. Faulty PSU?
  • You can probably do a "paper clip" test to help you confirm its the PSU and nothing else. Basically removing the PSU and connecting a paperclip to specific pins on the PSU to act like an "ON" button.

But based on the symptoms you've indicated, it does sound like a PSU problem. Nollij's idea of buying another PSU that would allow you to return it sounds like another good solution/test.

  • Airplane canopy opens mid-flight
  • Anybody with experience want to talk about how/why this happened? Seems like part of the problem was the small opening on the right side of the plane. But I imagine its should be designed to not break so easily considering the use case. In addition, I'm surprised the canopy would open instead of staying locked. Good thing this pilot didn't panic and was experienced enough to still safely land the plane.

  • Clear existing data
  • Not that I know of no. Maybe installing the game from source could do it. So you want the be able to unlock the badges and classes again? Out of curiosity, do you have all the badges unlocked?

  • 16 Nobel prize-winning economists see a Trump inflation bomb
  • I tried to look for something like this happening before and don't see anything. Maybe it's my bad searching skills, but this is definitely not great for Trump's plans. Not certain how convincing it is politically though.

  • Dr Disrespect fired by the game studio he co-founded: 'It is our duty to act with dignity on behalf of all individuals involved'
  • NVM found it. Damn doc is getting lamer the more you learn about him. https://www.ggrecon.com/articles/dr-disrespect-calls-out-bethesda-over-starfield-pronouns/ Basically, Starfield mentions your pronoun after character creation and mentions that you can change your pronoun if you like. Doc then looks up someone from Starfield or something looking for their pronouns in the company website. He then says "Its all starting to make sense" in such a way that shows his disapproval of that option being in the game.

Its not some crazy event, but it just adds another thing to a pile of things that show he's kind of a crappy person. Starfield had mentioned they didn't want to partner with him due to the previous twitch controversy, I feel his continued actions (getting pissy over this option, that he could completely ignore) really proves Starfield's decision was a good one.

Is there a way switch all keyboard shortcuts from Ubuntu to be the same as MacOS?
  • I'm not the most experienced with Ubuntu, but the way that comes to mind is setting up shortcuts manually to try to match MacOS. It would be a bit tedious honestly. I'm hoping somebody comes along and knows of a library that already does that.

  • Death toll rises to 20 after gunmen attack Russia's Dagestan
  • Holy shit that's crazy. 45 15 police officers were killed too. I bring up this number in particular because usually, attacks like this, have people heavily armed against unarmed people. They usually get dispatched pretty quickly when they encounter any sort of armed resistance (police, or people with guns), but to see that they still were able to kill 45 police is crazy.

  • Why do I puke more than once when I've been drunk?
  • I feel like no one is addressing the fact that this shouldn't be happening very frequently as your making it sound. Either you're drinking too much, to the point of being alcoholic. That or something is wrong with your body.

  • When does investing become gambling?
  • I feel you have literally picked the single most unique example for markets not going up. You make it seem like the US's market will need to experience the same thing eventually, and I don't think most people would agree with that assertion. Japan's economy is a very strange and unique case.

  • When does investing become gambling?
  • We can't know for sure, but its historically been the case. In addition, the expectation for infinite growth stems a lot from continued research and development. We continue to make processes more efficient making products cheaper and easier for more people to buy. You can say that the econmy will stop growing at some point, but we just don't know when that may happen.

  • Clooney and Roberts help Biden raise $30 million-plus at a star-studded Hollywood gala
  • We’re on different pages if your not 100% sure it was a joke… I’m saying he shouldn’t be joking about it. You’re saying it’s fine because he’s likely just joking? Like, do you not remember that republicans started out “just joking” as well? And when their base didn’t push back, they stopped fucking joking and just saying it. I don't need to respond to this since you're ignoring the context of Biden, and his comment vs Trump and his comments. Either you're unaware how people work, or intentionally ignorant.

Did he show up for a photo op for a couple.of hours and tried to take credit for others accomplishments? If that’s not the one you’re talking about, can you link what you’re talking about?

Lol ok you're just downplaying his accomplishments here, acting like the president attending an event, and giving a speech offering support for their movement has absolutely no power. Do you think he's a monarch that can just force the company to give into the Union's demands?

He needs the money to convince people to hold their noses… [rest of your comment]

And this just proves more you're either completely ignorant to how campaigning works in the real world, or more likely, you're a troll feigning ignorance. I don't need to provide a response for the rest of your drivel as its obvious everyone else can see their your feigned ignorance, BoTh SiDes, and suggestions that only work in a fantasy world but not the real world.

  • Clooney and Roberts help Biden raise $30 million-plus at a star-studded Hollywood gala
  • It's bad when Trump does it, it's bad when Biden does it.

I feel that's so different. Trump has shown to not CARE about the rules of law. He had committed a a coup, was impeached 2 times, and through out his presidency talked about doing illegal/immoral things and Even now tells about revenge. Biden's comment seems like a joke because he hasn't been shown to be vindictive, Trump's comments seem more like threats because of his history.

I just hope Biden starts trying to court voters eventually instead of donors.

The current party fucking loves fancy dinners with the rich and famous, but seem to have an open disdain for the average Americans whose votes are what matters.

Bro he's literally the first president to attend a union picket like, he's been traveling around to meet with voters. Your right this event isn't as much about reaching out to the common man, but that's because his campaign still needs money and this is one way to make it.

So yes in a lot of ways you've just described campaigning. Where a candidate must both get donations for their campaign, while also courting voters. Yes both Trump and Biden must campaign, like every presidential candidate before.

Volaris website not working for others on linux?

For a while now, I've been unable to actually view the Volaris website while using Ubuntu 22.04 (In a previous version I believe as well). I've tried Brave, Firefox, and Chrome with the same results so I don't believe its browser specific (as most people use one of those 3 web browsers), which leads me to believe its Linux specific (as I doubt Volaris' website has been broken like this for over 2 years now).

The website seems to load some background images, but then it stops loading. I'm basically unable to interact with the website in any way. Sometimes I'll get a captcha to even access the website. The workaround that I have found was actually going into the inspector and refreshing. This make the website function again while the inspector is open.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Impact of California Fast Food Worker Wage Increase Still Too Early to Gauge | KQED
www.kqed.org Impact of California Fast Food Worker Wage Increase Still Too Early to Gauge | KQED

A month after most California fast food workers started earning at least $20 an hour, economists say it’s too early to determine industry impact. While some workers report improved quality of life, others see cuts in work hours and less income as employers adjust to more expensive payroll.

Impact of California Fast Food Worker Wage Increase Still Too Early to Gauge | KQED

I’m glad this was passed. Only worry I have is that the the corporations will have the money to take a hit in California. Keep the amount of money they siphon from CA high, translating to higher costs to the CA businesses and, despite the fact that more of their businesses will struggle, use that as evidence that this law should be repealed.

Should I offer a more narrow salary expectation if the job listing already has a range?

I'm doing interviews, and I wanted to get an idea of what other people are doing. Say a position offers a pay range between 50-65k. In my interview with HR (first interview), should I try to provide a more narrow range? for instance, " Based on my skills and experience, I'd expect a range between 56-60k" Or should I just tell them the range offered is good for me and let them actually provide an offer? This is of course assumes the entire range is acceptable to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Better Clarity on Hidden Rooms -ShatteredPD

I feel like hidden rooms aren't very transparently shown in the game. Currently there are usually 2-3 hidden rooms in each area, with an additional hidden room for every floor that has "many secrets". This is all totally fine, except that its sort of hard to identify them, even as someone that's rather familiar with what they are. By identify, I don't mean to search for them, but to actually identify whether a room is a hidden room or not.

My suggestion would be that all hidden rooms share some kind of identifier. some suggestions would be:

    • uniquely colored door that, even if burned, has a different color so you'll always know that was an entrance to a hidden room

    • Uniquely colored flooring

    • Uniquely colored walls

    • Indications in the logs when you step into an area or floor ("you have found 1 of 2 or 3 hidden rooms in this area" "There is one discovered hidden room on this floor")

Hidden rooms can affect your rankings score so allows for easier ways to track that would be welcomed.

Question about potential career path (Technical Account Manager)

I'm currently a Technical account manager at a company and I'm uncertain where to go from here. I currently make 150k, with some of my more experienced coworkers making 200k. I'd like to apply to other companies to make more money.

But I'm wondering, is staying in this sort of role good long term?

Some additional information on what I do, since I understand this role varies company by company:

We interact a lot with clients post sales making technical recommendations on the products of ours to use.

We sometimes help direct clients with integration, or do it ourselves which involves using our REST API.

We also sometimes have to configure and customize our web application front end, which involves making changes to its HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

We would sometimes also need to investigate and deploy bug fixes for production.

Now, looking at potential jobs, I'm seeing Technical Account manager, Solutions Engineer, and customer engineer roles that seem really similar to what I'm doing now, paying about 150k average, maybe even a bit more. I'm uncertain what kind of progression there is though.

On the other hand, as a software engineer (which, despite having a degree in CS, i have no work experience doing, other than what I'm doing now), it feels like there's an, obvious to me, career progression. The issue is that it appears that the average pay for what I think I could work as (junior/entry level software engineer) is closer to 100 - 120k.

Should I keep trying to stay in my current job type? What sort of new positions should I aim for to make more money?

Should I bite the bullet and go into software engineering, losing some short term income in exchange for a better career path with better pay in the future? Should I be applying for entry level positions? or staff/intermediate level Software engineering roles?

    any advice is appreciated!

    locking procedure check

I just recently got into using a bike for commuting and I was wondering if this is a good way to secure my bike? I know, previously, people would recommend only needing to lock the back tire to a solid object, but I’ve seen videos of people easily cutting the back tire, breaking it and taking the frame/front tire. My method of locking is sort of similar, except I do lock around the splash guard. If this isn’t very secure, I’d have to get a longer ulock or chain, because there doesn’t appear to be an easy way for me to lock around the back tire, frame and solid object with my current ulock. Any suggestions are appreciated.
