Weekly what have you been playing discussion - week of February, 5th, 2024
  • Great game. It reminds me of Warcraft 3, but without having enemy armies destroy my base - I was never good at the fighting but enjoyed base building so this is just in my wheel house. And it's great that you can use multiple strategies to win. I'm more into satisfying everyones needs as opposed to exploration based run. You?

  • I loved the first game, but didn't try the second one yet. I don't really know what I'm waiting for 😀

  • INDIKA | Gameplay Teaser
  • Looks like some crazy trippy stuff. Graphics seem pretty nice, but who knows what will the actual gameplay look like

  • The European regulators listened to the Open Source communities!
  • The EU regulators have many flaws but news like this gives me some hope

  • How A Steam Bug Deleted Someone’s Entire PC
  • Ok, thanks for the info. I started freaking out :D

  • Which games do you dislike, but the rest of the world loves them?
  • What I love about the Zelda games is that they try out something new with each title. So who knows, maybe they'll eventually do a Zelda that's geared more to fans of the older titles.

  • Which games do you dislike, but the rest of the world loves them?
  • I agree with all you said about Zelda BOTW. As a Zelda game I was really disappointed. But if you set aside the Zelda part it was actually a pretty fun game for me. I really enjoyed the exploration and it was the best open world game I played so far. But too easy forgettable dungeons and too easy bosses and darn weapons breaking really bothered me so I'm not even interested in the TOTK. I'll wait for the next Zelda game and keep my fingers crossed.

  • The Legend Of Zelda, Super Mario Composer Koji Kondo To Be Inducted Into AIAS Hall Of Fame
  • Good to hear! That guy made some of the best video game music ever. Just Super Mario and Ocarina of Time should be enough. Also, it's really fun to play his music on a piano, although it's always pretty hard at first 😅

  • Yet Another Fantasy Title: Official First Gameplay Trailer
  • I really like the flashing police horses. The game looks fun, can't wait to try it out.

  • What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? 21 January
  • Why not? There's nothing wrong with fun. You don't have to exclusively read "high" literature. We've got to unwind sometimes, right?

  • What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? 21 January
  • Lets say you have a refined taste 😉 sometimes what's most highly rated is boring stuff intended for the mass audience. For example, I stopped watching USA movies and very rarely see a USA series because I don't enjoy it at all. It has great reviews, but doesn't interest me, and that's ok. I'd say that people who like it have a bad taste, and they would say I have a bad taste. Lets just say we have different interests 😅

  • Great news from 2023
  • I prefer Linux as a OS, so I'm really happy that I can play games that aren't supported by devs. And it has benefits - since Linux is a better OS by a mile some games work better on it. For example Valheim on Windows is unplayable for me since it shuts down my computer after 5 - 20 mins, while on Linux it runs without problems and has smaller FPS drops in my gigantic castle. Maybe it's a bad example since it has support for Linux, but Ravenswatch doesn't and also has better performance on Linux through Proton.

  • Great news from 2023
  • Yep, even if the game is Windows only and you're a Linux guy, you go into the Steam properties/settings for that game, click on the Compatibility tab, and then check the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool". Chances are the game will work fine, but if it doesn't you can try some other version of Proton. Alternatively, there is also Wine but I didn't touch it yet and heard it's a pain in the a**

  • What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? 21 January
  • Exactly! Tastes differ. But that makes me vary of recommendations and I end up second guessing every 5 star review. Who knows how many good books I passed up 😅

  • Ah the joy!
  • Oh yes, the "AI", how could I forget. All aboard the hype train!

  • The Universim - 1.0 is Finally Here
  • Not at all. I played DF (with sprites) and had a great time. The graphics are not fantastic, but are not unappealing either. I know a lot of people loved the ASCII, but personally I'm not into that.

  • The Universim - 1.0 is Finally Here
  • I'd argue that Minecraft and Stardew Valley do visually look good. Looking good doesn't mean that it has to look like a AAA game with realistic graphics. Very old games like Super Mario Bros 3 look great even today. Pixel art games if done with care look fantastic. What I didn't like about this game when looking at the trailer on Steam is that the world looks barren - specifically, look at the 35s mark on their Steam video. I see that there are some other visually appealing scenes in the trailer, but some scenes just look unfinished. I agree I was a bit harsh, but the couple of close-ups in the trailer left a really bad impression on me.

  • The Universim - 1.0 is Finally Here
  • I like the concept, but visually it looks pretty crude. Somehow I think if devs didn't care enough to make the game look good (it doesn't have to look fantastic), then I'm pretty sure the gameplay isn't all that impressive either.

  • Ah the joy!
  • Yep, I'm so happy when I hear how shitty Win 11 is. Enjoy your ads, currency exchange rates that for some reason cycle on the taskbar, traffic information, and what not.
