A cool guide Types of plugs in the world
  • Those fuses that can be changed by home owner themself have not existed in 20 years, all are automatic that you just flip from the panel. Fuse size is calculated based on the width of the cable, so if current gets too high the fuse just flips, so the cable doesn't melt.

Edit: as a counter part, if you plug multiple high usage components on same cable, the individual device/plug fuse does not blow, but the cable can melt inside the wall.

  • Researchers claim GPT-4 passed the Turing test
  • I tried this with GPT4o customization and unfortunately openai's internal system prompts seem to force it to response even if I tell it to answer that you don't know. Would need to test this on azure open ai etc. were you have bit more control.

  • YouTube is experimenting with server-side ads
  • You need to kill the market first, if you make ad riddled shit first, no one uses your system. Now there is no real competition, which means they will monetize their position. It is what corporations do. We need alternatives, and I know Fediverse has some.

  • No right wing wave in Finland as Left Alliance take record result in EU elections
  • Finland has two major left parties: SDP (social democratic party), which is the more center leaning party. Then there is left-wing party, which is more to left. The more left one won now big, and it is uncommon for them to be one of the big winners.

We also have communist party here, and liberal party, but those are really small. Communist got 2 828 votes in total.

  • Is Microsoft trying to commit suicide?
  • I think you might be bit underestimating how much data Microsoft actually already has. They have just being better of keeping it to them self. MS from these three is the only one who is not an ad company, so they don't have to sell the data to 3rd parties to be profitable. They can just hoard the data, bit like Amazon+AWS.

  • Is Microsoft trying to commit suicide?
  • There is a huge corporate insensitive that everyone is not realizing here. By screen recording + OCR, there is a possibility to start using this data to replace some labor intensive, but simple tasks of operating a business. If you can create RPA+ML+LLM that can rerun repetitive tasks, you have holy grail on your hands. I think this is one of the big reason why M$ is pushing this.

I assume to be down voted to oblivion, but I do business automation and integration for living, and at the same time I am scared and excited.

  • Google AI making up recalls that didn’t happen
  • Yes, because this whole thing is incredible stupid, that how could they not see it? Saying of course is that "never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence", but holy shit how incompetent this 2 trillion dollar company was.

  • Google AI making up recalls that didn’t happen
  • It is possible to happen without any 4D chess thinking, they try, they realize that they failed, but they realize that they win here either way.

This shit is so bad that even a blind guy can see it.

  • Story how I found out that Lemmy community paths are bit problematic

I found from hard way that lemmy community urls are bit problematic. Here is the story, which contains bit NSFW material.

I was trying to figure out in Jerboa how to subscribe to community in another instance. First one that I came across, that i was not subscribed to was !hairypussy@pornlemmy. com. (I know, I know, I am a perv)

I copy pasted the community path to my android clipboard, and tried few ways in the app, and eventually gave up.

Some time passes, until I went to do some shopping. My wife and I use a shared shopping list. From this shopping list I found this beatiful community path.

My wife had a laugh, but I was worried that If she would have been bit more jelous side, she could have made a assumption from the structure of the path.

The thing is that !hairypussy @ pornlemmy. com looks like email address. This could have been misunderstood quuuite badly.

I am a coder also, so @ is sensible separator, and serves the same purpose as in email. Probably it should not change, but the structure can cause misunderstandings with some communities and lemmy instance urls. Of course here main issue is user error, and any link to some bad site can be issue, but people understand what website URL is.

Please let me know if this needs NSFW tag.
