Did you test the performance of the drive? I'm getting 300MB/s in crystal disk with it still in the enclosure. So I'm wondering if I'm being limited by it.
Yeah, I've heard good things about exos drives. Especially the dual actuator Mach.2 ones like this one. They're supposed to be really fast. I've heard that they reach 500MB/s reads but mine got 300MB/s in crystal disk benchmark. Mine is still in the enclosure btw, so that could be limiting it.
I ended up getting the 14tb Seagate expansion for $239. There's a 18tb WD easystore that goes for $299 and ends up being a better value. It was out of stock in store at Best buy and I was okay with 14 so I just went with that. So, I guess you could wait for the 18tb WD to go on sale for $299 again. That was the best deal I could find in terms of $/TB.

Yeah but that's Amazon.com and I'm in Canada. After customs and shipping that ends up being around $370 in CAD which is higher than what websites are offering over here.
I'm planning on using it as an external drive for a few months. I plan on shucking it later when I get around to building my NAS in a few months. So I'm wondering which would be better for that. I'm located in Canada so the prices are all in $CAD.
The 14tb I found for $239.99 at bestbuy and the 18tb is $334.99 at Newegg/Western Digital. Price per TB is $17.14/TB and $18.61/TB respectively.
