Trans Americans brace for Trump’s ‘sinister’ return: ‘It’s almost intolerable’
  • It's absolutely terrifying. I'm in a red state and every single trans person I know has been devastated and wanting to at least leave the state. My partner and I are intending on moving to a blue state as soon as possible. Can't really leave the country since no place will likely take us since we are both disabled.

It's incredibly hard and depressing to realize that the vast majority of people might care about us as trans folk and believe we deserve our rights to exist and be ourselves and even support trans kids, but that enough of those people either were willing to sacrifice our rights for the price of eggs, or stayed home or voted third party for some bs reason that they wanted to "punish the democrats" for. Enough people caring about us doesn't matter anymore if they don't vote to protect our rights.

It's really fucking hard to exist right now.

  • The Reckoning (Sam Harris)
  • going on Fox News to defend the usage of "female" and "male" as categories of biological sex in medical classes.

Yeah no one is saying to use different terms when it comes to biological sex. It's not happening. What they're likely doing is simply saying there's more complexity to what defines biological sex. Going on Fox News and saying that is showing who she is. A believer in the far rights talking points when it comes to trans issues. She went on Fox News to defend something like that when that thing just isn't happening is why she was likely pushed out. Because shes parroting far right talking points.

And as we've seen recently with a handful of Democrats throwing trans people under the bus, her being a lifelong Democrat means nothing here.

  • Trump details plan to ban gender-affirming care for minors and adults
  • Not all gender affirming care is surgery. In fact, almost all gender affirming care isn't surgery. He wants to restrict all of it so that as few people as possible can get on it, then eventually it'll be an entire ban because he doesn't want trans people to exist at all. While it might not initially be an entire ban, its pretty fucking close and will be expanded upon eventually.

  • The Reckoning (Sam Harris)
  • This is the worst article about the reasons she lost I have seen. I've read a lot of them and just. Fuck dude this is awful. Transphobia particularly is just reprehensible. I mean. Look at this shit.

Trans women are people and should have all the political freedom of people. But to say that they are women—and that making any distinction between them and biological women, for any purpose, is a thought crime and an act of bigotry—that is the precept of a new religion.

He's literally not getting the point. No one is saying that trans women and cis women aren't at all different. We are just saying that trans women are also women and that simply calling us "people" as he does is fucking shitty. We aren't cis. No shit. We know that. None of us are making that claim. This fucker is just completely ignoring so much of the core of trans issues. And to call it a new religion. Like fuck man this guy is awful. Also he literally italicizes women and people. Fucking insane.

When talking about trans kids he says he's sure there are "real" cases of gender dysphoria but that some kids are just convinced to be trans by fucking tiktok.

    Then says

Where, due to the influence of trans activists on our institutions, these kids are effectively in a cult, being brainwashed by a new orthodoxy.

Saying that trans activists are sneakily converting kids into our cult and brainwashing them. Fuck dude. He insists he's not transphobic then goes into the worst transphobia I've seen in a while.

    Another:

Whereas it is obvious that, for millions of Americans, it might as well have been the only issue in this election. Not because they are transphobic assholes, but because they simply do not accept the new metaphysics, and even new biology, mandated by trans activists and the institutions that they have successfully bullied and captured.

Saying that trans people are bullying doctors into changing biology and that we captured it like a fucking capture the flag match and that us as trans activists are changing science as a whole. Us trans folk have only ever said that simplistic biology is just that, simplistic, and that there is far more complex biology that exists so maybe biology isn't super important when it comes to gender expression and trans identity.

This one is a long one:

Having the thought police suddenly proscribe the use of the term “woman,” and demanding that we speak instead of “birthing person,” or “menstruators,” or “people with ovaries,” or some other Orwellian construction designed to test everyone's patience and sanity… the sight of people being deplatformed on social media or fired from universities for merely stating that there are two biological sexes—I actually know a professor who lost her job at Harvard over this… witnessing an epidemic of gender confusion spread through our schools, when people with their own eyes could see that this was a social contagion being encouraged by the schools themselves—the ultimate fruition of which, in many cases, is irreversible medical procedures… We've got an epidemic of teenage girls wanting double mastectomies—snd some are actually getting them, based on ideas being spread on TikTok—and any parent who resists this trend gets demonized and, under certain conditions, could lose custody of their kids? Congratulations, Democrats. You have found the most annoying thing in the fucking galaxy and hung it around your necks.

People don't lose their job for saying "there are only two biological sexes", they lose their job for refusing to respect trans students by not using their preferred name or pronouns. Saying it's just about speaking truth to biology is misunderstanding everything. And then saying that using inclusive language is Orwellian? This fucker is a far right fascist piece of shit and this article should be fucking removed for how absolutely awful it is.

All trans people are asking is to just fucking respect who we are. None of us are arguing for rights that others don't have, none of us are arguing biology doesn't exist, none of us are arguing we are cis, none of us are converting kids into our cult through tiktok, none of us are apart of the "trans religion", none of us are bullying doctors into respecting our existence, none of us say there's no difference between us and cis folk (thats the entire reason there are cis women and trans women, because there is and always will be a distinction).

This was a terrible article to read so early into my day and I didn't even get into the immigration part because now I'm gonna have to go wash my fucking eyes out with bleach.

Edit: he's also at the end of the trans section using Elon Musk as a reason for how bad trans people and trans activists are because if the richest and smartest man in the world can see through the cult, then we should all be aware that trans people are a cult.

  • Make no mistake: this Trump presidency will continue to attack abortion rights
  • Absolutely. But didn't ya hear? Abortion rights are now also identity politics. So running on protecting them isn't okay and is running on identity politics, but running on restricting them or banning them isn't running on identity politics as long as you lie about your true goal.

Anyone who didn't vote for Harris but would have if one reason or another was different and who will soon lose their right to an abortion nationwide, if we have a next time you better fucking vote so shit like what's about to happen doesn't happen again/continue to happen.

  • AOC Asked People Who Voted For Both Her And Trump To Explain Why—And Their Answers Are Eye-Opening
  • I get what you're saying. And agree somewhat. But I think you don't have to be mentally ill or an idiot or whatever to be brainwashed. But being brainwashed is 100% what a lot of people on the right are and refusing to use that term might make sense in some regard, but it also doesn't properly address how we could go about fixing things. While I don't fully know how to fix this, treating it like brainwashing is the only way we can address it, as long as we also approach these people with patience and compassion and try to show them why what they spout is brainwashed.

It's a cult ya know? And cults are brainwashed. And calling people mentally ill or idiots for falling for it will definitely just make them double down. But it's still brainwashing.

  • AOC Asked People Who Voted For Both Her And Trump To Explain Why—And Their Answers Are Eye-Opening
  • This is fucking nuts. Some of those answers are people being so uninformed and then acting like they're the ones that are informed. Some even voted for Trump because they think he's anti-war and will stop the Genocide in Gaza despite him wanting to turbocharge it. It's just. Fucking depressing. I don't know how to counter this. The far right has created a media ecosystem that allows them to feed trash into their viewers brains even if it's a blatant lie and those people will go from voting for a blatant racist and fascist who thinks people of color are not real Americans, to voting for a left leaning woman of color.

It's almost like they don't have any actual morals or beliefs and only care about being anti-establishment. Some say they'd vote for Bernie but instead voted for Trump despite them being completely opposite people. These people don't have media literacy. They've been brainwashed, and I don't know how to fix it.

  • Project 2025 authors gloat over Trump win: 'What a joke – it was all lies'
  • But I was informed by some Lemmy users that Project 2025 was nothing to worry about and that if we were worried about it we were believing the propaganda that it was a boogeyman. And that Project 2025 was Harris's plan if she came into office too. And that it had also already been partially implemented under Biden as well. Is it possible that maybe that was wrong? That the Lemmy users saying that were actually the ones spouting the propaganda to not be scared about it? The propaganda that says that it's just a new iteration of the Mandate for Leadership and nothing to worry about?

    No that can't be true.

  • Stupid lamestream scientists!
  • Dunno where that picture is from, it makes it look much more like a human construction, here's a more recent pic. If you want to learn more about this rock wall, here's a link.

TL;DR It's sandstone that fractured (something sandstone does all the time) but happened to fracture into a pattern that looks like stacked stones. This apparently happens a lot to rock that is underground and while there were legends of arches and hallways and even "metal tools" there is no actual evidence to say those existed and the "metal tools" where simply iron deposit in the earth which happens all the time.

  • Well, Democrats succeeded in expanding the swing state map alright...Mission Accomplished?
  • I never said it was low turnout. I said that if more people voted, particularly people who voted in 2020, then it wouldn't have been as close in those states. Millions of democratic voters sat out the election this time and that is undeniable. And many because they didn't think it mattered or didnt think the candidate was perfect. If they had voted because of whatever would have gotten them to vote then things wouldn't been as close in those solidly blue states.

There were definitely people that defected but that doesn't negate my point. 2024 was high turnout but it was particularly and mainly high for the republican party and that's a key reason things were closer with the solidly blue states that you are claiming are swing states. And most defectors had a single issue for why, mainly things like inflation and housing costs, and also because they were simply rebelling against the incumbents as others have been doing around the world.

If more people voted in those states then things wouldn't have been as close and calling them swing states is disingenuous. That's all I'm saying.

  • ‘We’re Here for You’: Election-Fueled Calls to LGBTQ Teen Suicide Hotlines Spike
  • It's not just the queer youth that are calling the hotlines too. Particularly the trans hotline is apparently packed. I've almost called it myself a couple times already. The country showed it doesn't care about us and is literally willing to sacrifice us to maybe get cheaper eggs (even though it won't), of course a shit ton of us want to take ourselves out, it feels better than dying in a camp.

  • Harris Ran to Trump’s Right on Immigration — and Gained Absolutely Nothing For It
  • Did she run on some right talking points on immigration that were shitty to run on and should have been cast out? Yeah absolutely. Did she run to Trumps right on Immigration? Fuck no. She never advocated for mass deportations and if she was running to the right of Trump she would have.

The article makes good points, but that headline is trash.

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Clumsy, Preachy Political Messaging Does More Harm Than Good
  • "Aqun-athlok" means one who was born one gender and is now living as another. So yeah that means trans. But there's also a conversation in the trans community about if Non-Binary is technically trans. I would argue it is but some disagree and others say that while Non-binary is trans it is not a "normal" type of trans. That Non-Binary is not either gender. Sometimes Non-Binary is literally no gender. Non-Binary is it's own umbrella term. So it's not necessarily living as "another" gender, it can be living in between genders, without gender, or as both genders.

So i would say that "Aqun-athlok" is probably more applicable as binary trans as it was used to refer to krem who was a trans man. Now they could have just thought up a new word for Non-binary trans but Non-Binary is just kinda the perfect word for it. I'm Non-Binary and I actually think saying this is immersion breaking is just kinda bs. Plenty of words in our world also exist in Dragon Age. Not everything has to have a different word. For instance, Dwarves are a thing in our world. Sure they're not the same, it's a medical term, but they still exist. But the Dwarves in Dragon Age are still called Dwarves. Why are they not a different name? It's a fantasy world, shouldn't they have made up a new word instead of using a word from our world to describe these people? No, because Dwarves is just the word that fits best. Non-Binary here is the same.

Now whether or not it is written well is a better approach to this discussion but also, every trans person has experienced the exact thing that this writer describes, except it's not always pushups. I've had people feel incredibly guilty over misgendering me and done some stupid stuff. When I hear this being described I don't think it's awkwardly written, I think it's an accurate representation of what it can be like being trans and how some people will just be like that when they misgender you.

I also think calling it "preachy" is 100% playing into the narrative it's Woke because people don't call CoD preachy even though it's filled with pro military propaganda. Why is this preachy just because it accurately shows an experience that trans people have all experienced in our own lives?

I haven't gotten to this place yet in the game and I might end up finding it awkward, but I more likely expect to actually relate to Taash more because of it.

Anyway, just my thoughts from a trans dragon age fan.
