I get noticeably longer battery life because there isn’t as much constantly running in the background.
It's a shame about the shitty remote though.
That has been fixed on the last two models. It now uses a circular d-pad instead of just swiping.
But Sony only provides 2 to 3 years of software and security updates, so getting an older model might not be the best idea either.
Sony covers most of those, but they are not cheap.
Doku still has the typical wiki style version control. It uses other text files to keep a changelog without cluttering the markdown file.
Firefox Sync is end-to-end encrypted and open source, so your data is secure.
DokuWiki for simplicity. Everything is a text file that can just be copied to a web server. It doesn't even require a database. And since all the wiki pages are plaintext markdown files, they can still be easily accessed and read even when the server is down. This is great and why I use DokuWiki for my server documentation as well.
Thunderbird on PC and K9 on Android. K9 is now a part of Thunderbird and will eventually be rebranded to Thunderbird.
Curious if these function adequately in place of an android phone for a daily driver.
No. The battery life is bad, it is slow, and the camera is comparable to a 15 year old flip phone. It is fun to play with, but both the hardware and software need to improve before I could use it as my only phone.
That is a lot of Dakotas.
It's an Android app, so it's not a replacement for Apple Podcasts.
I have been using Ente for a couple of years and have been very satisfied. It has been improving rapidly as well. It was a little rough at the start, but is currently reliable and easy to use. I definitely recommend giving Ente a try. As someone else mentioned, videos aren't able to play immediately if they aren't already cached locally. And while search is improving, it is still far behind Google Photos.
I’m still looking for the Apollo experience.
Voyager is almost a complete copy of the Apollo UI and one of the more polished Lemmy clients.
It's not about the color. It's about not destroying photo and video quality or breaking messages into multiple parts and sending them out of order.
I have not experienced that, but have you tried the Skip silence in audio feature? It does a good job removing pauses in audio which would hopefully solve the problem you are experiencing.
Get a dedicated streaming device like an Apple TV or Roku that can be swapped or upgraded independent of the TV.
I'm very careful with my phones, but I still use screen protectors for added protection. It costs less than $10 for a decent tempered glass screen protector. I find tiny micro scratches from everyday use annoying, so it's worth it to me.
I would stick with one of the open source apps. Thunder is my favorite, but Voyager and Eternity are good as well.
I have a ThinkPad X12 that supports Linux well. The pen works fairly well with Xournal++. I don't use it that often because I prefer a traditional laptop form factor, but it's great if you like the Surface style design.
