I know about Obtainium, thanks, but I prefer to avoid having several different sources for apps. Besides, F-Droid builds apps from source and checks for anti-features, so it's a nice to have check that the app is not doing anything sketchy.
Proton Mail used to be available on IzzyOnDroid's F-Droid repository but I can't find it there anymore.
Will it come back? or even better, will it come to the official F-Droid repository?
It's removed from Elsevier's site, but still available on PubMed Central: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11026926/#
The worse part is, if I recall correctly, articles are stored in PubMed Central if they received public funding (to ensure public access), which means that this rubbish was paid with public funds.
This is nice, but at the same time the EU keeps pushing for a backdoor in encrypted messenger services, so remember we needed to keep pressuring our politicians into doing the right thing.
Wanted to say the same: the typo made the comment better. There has to be a community for this.
Glad that it worked out in the end. It's a pity that different Android versions and custom ROMs have this setting in different places, I guess this is also making it impossible for the developer to put a direct link to this setting in Heliboard that would work for all users.
MP3Tag sounds cool, but there's no Linux version it seems :(
Found the solution to this some days ago: you need to change your System Spell checker to Heliboard.
Now the developer added it to the FAQ too:
Spell checker is not checking all languages in multilingual typing: Make sure you actually enabled HeliBoard spell checker. Usually it can be found in System Settings -> System -> Languages -> Advanced -> Spell Checker, but this may depend on Android version.
Hi sorry for the late reply. I'm not an expert here but I think I can help you with a couple of things:
I installed HeliBoard_1.2-release.apk
Then you're fine. That's the app intended for release. I assume you got the APK from the developers GitHub? I use F-Droid so there's only option available.
It's giving me suggestions, but no corrections
You could download that dictionary file that you linked, but I believe that is not necessary if your Android System language is set to English and you're typing in English too, it should be able to use the System internal dictionary. In my case I have 4 different languages configured in Heliboard and I downloaded dictionaries 3 of them, but I didn't need to download the one for my system language, it just uses the internal dictionary. For the other 3 languages: I downloaded their dictionary files, saved them in a safe location in my phone (I have a folder for apps Settings and backups, and I created a Heliboard subfolder where I keep my dictionaries and the glide typing library)
Regarding my old issue with changing languages and having the spell check change at the same time: I fixed that by changing the Spell checker app in Android's System Settings. I found out about this reading a related GitHub issue and I suggested to the developer to add this information to the FAQs, which they quickly did (check the section "Spell checker is not checking all languages in multilingual typing"). You can also activate the Globe icon to Switch languages under Heliboard's Settings: "Preferences/Additional Keys/Language Switch keys", but I personally prefer being rid of it and just sliding on the spacebar
Also, is there any reason to switch to newpipe if ReVanced is serving me well?
I guess for most people not, but there can be some:
- privacy: NewPipe doesn't require you to log on to a Google account (but it so connects to Google servers if you watch YouTube videos). You can, however still follow channels (only locally, obviously)
- ability to download videos or just audio. An extra is that on ReVanced you can have the download function through a 3rd party app, you can choose from several and NewPipe is one of them.
- NewPipe can also play content from other sources, like Bandcamp or SoundCloud.
A reason to not switch would be... the interface is not very ptetty
Thanks for the tip! There was also NewPipe with SponsorBlock but I can't find it anymore. Do you know if they're related?
Than you very much! I've been using this app for moths and I didn't know this. Cool feature.
But also on the main F-Droid repository. I can see both results when I search (see screenshot in my other reply).
I can. Have you tried updating the repository information in your app?
There's tons to choose from, some that are also found in the Play Store (often with Google proprietary libraries or tracking removed). I would recommend:
- Aegis authenticator: for 2FA.
- Antenna Pod: for all your podcasts needs
- Aves Libre: beautiful gallery app which I personally prefer over the Fossify app that others recommended here (try both and decide for yourself).
- Binary Eye: QR code scanner.
- Gauguin: a Sudoku-like game, very entertaining.
- Heliboard: a great keyboard with support for multilingual typing and glide typing. Completely offline and private.
- KDE Connect: to wirelessly connect your phone with your computer, transfer files, share the clipboard, control your computer from your phone...
- KeePassDX (or Bitwarden): password manager. I personally prefer KeePassDX and dealing myself with syncing the database (via synching or KDE Connect), but some people prefer Bitwarden which offers online syncing.
- KISS (or Kvaesitso): simple search-based launchers. Kvaesitso has more options but also feels a bit heavier.
- Metro: music player for local files
- Moshidon: Mastodon client.
- Mull: web browser based on Firefox with hardened privacy (+uBlock Origin extension)
- NewPipe: to watch YouTube videos without ads.
- Organic Maps (or OsmAnd~): offline Maps based on OpenStreetMap. Break free from Google.
- Syncthing: to synchronise files between devices (Android, computer).
- Tasks.org: to-do's.
- Transistor: listen to the radio. Many stations built-in, and you can add more if you have the streaming URL.
- Voyager: client for Lemmy.
I'm not sure, it might be possible. I am not the developer, just someone who wanted to guess why there is no option to disable those. You could open an issue in GitHub and ask for that option, the developers are quite active and responsive.
Heliboard does have a single hand layout, you can access it from the top toolbar (you might need to add this button in "Settings/Preferences/Additional keys/Select toolbar keys") or by long pressing the comma. Then tap the hand icon.
Heliboard is now also on the official F-Droid repository, people can choose any source!
Wish you could see a preview when customizing the keyboard. Hard to do it blind
That's a pretty good idea. You could check if there's any issue about it in GitHub or open one, the app is under active development and I think this is something the developers would consider implementing.
I don't think you can remove those buttons, because both of them give you access to more options:
- the numbers button changes they keyboard layout to give access not only to numbers but also to many symbols
- the comma button shows a pop up when long pressing for options like ”voice input, undo, redo, one handed mode, access settings...". These can be customised on the keyboard's settings.
