What Video games graphically hold up on their aesthetic?
  • Honestly, a lot of first party GameCube games have aged incredibly well. Mario Party, Wind Waker, Warioware, Smash, Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion etc. all still look fantastic today, resolution aside.

  • You can AfterPay your dinner now. WTAF
  • You can AfterPay your fucking petrol at some locations now. It's actually such a sickening demonstration of where we are as a world right now. The guy inside at the till even happily espoused that he "uses it all the time." Like dude, that isn't a positive thing.

  • What is this sign supposed to mean? It's on the lighter.
  • Came here for the Ashens reference and was not disappointed.

  • Ableism
  • Ban incoming; it's 'retarded'.

  • Which stage of capitalism is this?
  • I'm never sure when it comes to America, but I'd love to move there. Like us Aussies with dropbears and Americans, I was totally convinced by your post haha.

I've always wanted to visit a Bucky's! We've got nothing like it here, so it'd be a genuine experience.

  • Ant smell
  • For me it's usually only after they've died. They have this bitter, extremely unpleasant acidic smell to them.

  • Which stage of capitalism is this?
  • ngl the fact you can buy alcohol and ammunition at the gas station over there is making me jealous af. We legally have to have entire separate stores for those things, no exaggeration.

  • Which stage of capitalism is this?
  • It's wild how different the refueling process is between our countries. Paying at the pump was trialed here about 10 years ago, but next to nobody used it. We just rock up to the servo, pump our fuel, then walk inside to pay. I can't see it changing anytime soon. Some rural, more crime-ridden areas require pre-pay, as well as a few locations in urban areas between 11pm and 5am, but even then, you still walk inside or up to a window on the actual building to pay.

  • Which stage of capitalism is this?
  • "You're not sad. Now consume, peasants. Consume and never stop. You don't WANT to be sad, do you?"

No shit, I saw fucking Afterpay available for petrol at the pump the other week. I'm Australian, so I'm unsure if this 'buy now, pay later' shit is available for gas over in the States, but it was certainly a shock to see here.

  • Ant smell
  • I've always been able to smell them. I can't believe there are people out there who can't. My world has been rocked.

  • Massive issues with sleep and desperate for a solution.
  • Magnesium threonate cured my insomnia, it's fucking wild how well it works. I'd tried everything until I discovered it, from melatonin, to antihistamine sleeping pills, all the way to downing 350ml of whiskey every night just to force sleep.

Magnesium works better than every single thing I've tried (but you HAVE to let yourself fall asleep when you feel it starting to work.)

  • I hate how long it took me to realize this was an Onion article.

  • Finally we have something in common with the Yanks
  • While the general ban on fireworks makes sense in a country as dry as ours, it's just tiring seeing the rest of the world get to enjoy yet another thing we miss out on here. Airsoft, fireworks, cheaper alcohol, cheaper fuel, economic complexity, product variety, modern internet infrastructure, logical speed limit tolerances, drinking on the beach (legitimately illegal in fucking Australia), the right to not be treated like a goddamn child by the government, no blanket bans/sweeping law reforms based on the actions of one person, nicotine vaping not requiring a doctor's prescription, over the counter medications that actually work and aren't just weak and ineffective versions the rest of the world can purchase, and just so much more.

You just never know when something you enjoy will be banned, restricted, or taxed to death in this country, and I hate it more and more the older I get. Australia is a great country to live in if you're 77 and retired. Our leaders are wondering why so many young people are leaving for better, more free countries... maybe the fact that we're the most overregulated nanny state, Murdoch-controlled, American-without-any-of-the-fun-parts wannabe first world nation has something to do with it. If I wasn't already in my early-30's, I'd be leaving too.

  • Finally we have something in common with the Yanks
  • Can't be more ridiculous than it is here in Australia. Can't buy or set off fireworks without the relevant permit/license full stop (generally limited to public events and film production), but if you purchase an adapter for your 12 gauge, along with a pack of primers, you can legally fire them from your shotgun on private property... but you'd obviously need a firearms license first.

I have a shotgun. I have the fireworks, primers, and adapter. I have never had a chance to use them.

Australia is such a fucking boring country to live in. No wonder we all drink so much.

  • Using Lemmy make me hate Windows (or any proprietary softwares) and finally make me fully switched to Linux
  • Not OP, but I went with PopOS. I'd used it in a VM for a few years, so I decided to install it when I finally decided to make the switch after Microsoft decided to reveal that dystopian "record everything on your screen, coming to a PC near you soon" bullshit.

  • Using Lemmy make me hate Windows (or any proprietary softwares) and finally make me fully switched to Linux
  • I did the same the other day, although I'm dual booting as I still need Windows for a few things (namely Photoshop.) Slowly getting used to Linux though, and it does feel... free. It's extremely nice. Games run better (I mean fuck, the entire computer runs better.) I already use GrapheneOS on my Pixel 8, so it's nice to have my PC finally move towards privacy too.

  • New Windows AI feature records everything you’ve done on your PC
  • I'll legitimately be moving to Linux today. This just broke the camel's back for me.

  • Schools in England send police to homes of absent pupils with threats to jail their parents
  • It takes a lot to make Australia look like less of a prison, but holy fuck has post-Brexit Britain managed to do just that.

  • Check it out! Technology survived a Carrington Event
  • Goddamn, you fucking killed him dude.

  • ‘Happy Gilmore’ is getting a sequel, Netflix announces
  • Don't do this, Netflix. Happy Gilmore is sacred ground.

  • Onii-Chan Onii-Chan @kbin.social

We probably don't agree. I probably said something you didn't like. You look lovely, by the way. New shirt?
