Microsoft really wants Local accounts gone after it erases its guide on how to create them
  • Recently set up my Win 11 gaming pc and despite being tech savvy, I couldn’t get around the requirement without googling. I needed to run a fucking command in order for the Windows installer to let me create an offline account. That’s just so scammy. Imagine paying money for Windows.

  • These notifications are bundled together for some reason. So if I want to be notified when my subscriptions renew themselves, I have to also be notified of random games going on sale, too.
  • Yeah that’s horrible. I have a strict policy of turning off any notification that is not a direct message from a person to me or a reminder I set myself. If crap gets bundled like this, I turn it off altogether.

When I used Tinder, I just checked the app every now and then and I remember people unmatching me again because I didn’t reply quickly enough. Online dating is so fucking toxic.

  • My grocery store wants to know my BMI

    > My grocery store wants to know my BMI > > If they were interested in my location they could request location data. What are the odds they are doing this to directly market products to people based on health data? > > Inb4 “They already do that based on what you regularly purchase” > > Of course, yes they do. This appears to be one more layer on top of it. And surely they wouldn’t share that information with the pharmacy, right?

own homepage to show basic info with a couple of images
  • If you wanna expand your site in the future, something like Kirby CMS might be great. It is paid but dev experience, community and loading speed of pages are much better that with something like Wordpress.

  • Portable convenience [The Square Comics]
  • Yep exactly, a Magic Trackpad is my main input device. It’s great for design work where you often interact with canvases and might need to scroll in every direction. It’s also more comfortable to use for long time periods.

  • Giving Windows total recall is a privacy minefield
  • That’s pretty much a completely different feature though? It creates local backups. It respects passwords and encryption. It doesn’t take periodical screenshots of what you’re doing and reads their content to feed an LLM.

  • What did you buy that improved your life?
  • A semi-professional portafilter espresso machine paired with a great grinder.

I can make coffee at home that’s better than what’s being served in most cafés and I can just have that for breakfast every morning. Felt like quite the quality of life improvement.

  • Instagram's monthly subscription

To be clear: I prefer to pay for things instead of having to see ads but 13€ / month!? For a meta product that has inherently user-hostile design patterns even without ads?

    Who does this appeal to?

Glad to see Valve is putting so much effort into their macOS ports

Some context: .exe is the executable format for Windows. It's fine that Valve is using some translation layer instead of doing a port of Counter Strike 2. This error does however suggest that they don't even test their games before releasing them on macOS.

    [Request] Fix comment indentation

The first reply to a comment is always indented one unit too far to the right because that comment gets both the indentation and the line to the left of it. It makes the comment view look kinda messy and wrong.

The first reply to a comment should probably only have the line next to it and not be indented futher to look correct.

You can take a look at how voyager is handling it.
