someone is paying for organized propaganda operations on Lemmy which honestly is a little surprising to me but seems to indicate that it has an impact on elections to some extent, so maybe me doing work to debunk it is worthwhile, too

I have no idea if you are a shill or a genuine person. But, there are some behaviors that are bad things to do regardless of which you are:
Recasting your opponents’ views as other ones that make less sense and are easier to argue against, consistently, as a way of muddling the discourse, instead of being honest about what you’re saying and what you are disagreeing with and why, and just letting your point of view speak for itself whether or not I personally would agree with it

i don't trust it because it is very big on the design meaning to be "censorship resistant" and there are certain kinds of posts that people make that probably should be censored, and while i like that some tools exist to make pseudononymous, censorship-resistant communications possible (tor and i2p are good. freenet is fine imho), this one looks like a grift that has a neon sign saying "censorship resistant".... and i am sure that associating with those people will lead to encountering some of that material that probably should be censored.
you can make money off-platform from your content. you don't need to be paid by youtube.
peertube uses webtorrents. it's viable. it works. owncast is fully self-hosted. it works. all the people downvoting are repeating a talking point, and have never implemented these projects.

There’s a good reason Lemmy doesn’t have videos.
peertube exists. it's activitypub. lemmy is the reddit-like interface to activitypub. but the fediverse definitely has video. it even has live streaming through OwnCast (though i think peertube has livestreaming scheduled to be implemented as well)
