  • OnlyOffice is a good bridge yes. But a lot of people have trouble switching softwares. Older people don't really want to "relearn" a new software even if its just MSword to OnlyOffice.

I do fully agree with you though.

The reputation of the terminal usage alone is enough to put a lot of people off.

I also think a lot of people confuse the terminal with actual programming (which is a fair point if you are not tech savvy). Then they think "I don't know how to program so I can't use this".

Linux communities can also be a bit elitist as you said. Which is a shame. I've heard people bash windows users only to then be toxic with the classic "How do you not know this?" when they ask basic questions.

  • Its another nail in the coffin.

I'd still warn that a lot of people will not switch to linux anytime soon. There is a lot of fear about "command line" (for example) even though some distros (mint, ubuntu, popos etc) are pretty much turn key.

If you can help a less technically savy family member or friend change that would already be a good movement. But a lot of people still rely on MSOffice products (for example)

Some additional options might be using a burner outlook account.

Or, if you need to run some windows apps, a VM is always an option.

  • I understand that.

But the development will be in closed branches.

That has a greater chance of causing pains when GOS devs are adjusting these new features right?

Because now you, theoretically, have no upfront information about whatever bloatware google is about to inject in.

  • Imo fake positive reviews are more effective than negative reviews

Posting a 5 star "this app finally helped me connect with fellow racists" will likely help more since it is less likely to be removed by Google for review bombing.

  • Tank-ism is basically the fanboy equivalent of politics.

They criticize right wing states and fail to see the failure of left wing states.

    It's the inverse of MAGAites.

Tankies and MAGAites want you in the same concentration camps except they call them different names and they do it for different reasons.

  • I really appreciate these lists.

I would like to point out, however, that some of these distros are not that user friendly. Arch is notoriously not beginner friendly, endeavouros is slightly better but I would still not recommend if you are just fresh off the boat from Mac or Windows. Opensuse is great but its very professional based.

Pick a distro that works for you. If they are open sourced thats already most of the way there! Even devs based outside of the EU will likely share our gripes against the US's authoritarian shift and anti-big tech vibes.
