Should we stop splitting sports by gender and just let everybody compete together?
  • No, because the women would be at an unfair physical disadvantage in most sports.

I watched the speed rock climbing (sorry, don’t know the official name) during the Olympics. The fastest woman was amazing, she flew up the wall in about 6.75 seconds, and beat her nearest competitor by over a second to win the gold. The fastest man was nearly 2 seconds faster again with his competitors not far behind. If the women competed with the men, the female gold medal winner wouldn’t even be on the podium.

  • Why are Australians in denial about how cold our homes really are? ‘Winter stoicism’ is partly to blame | Reena Gupta
  • England’s average temperature is much lower than most parts of Australia. Your population is more than double Australia’s, in a landmass significantly smaller than Australia. You live next to a continent of half a billion people who have to deal with extreme’s of cold. The Pound is worth nearly double the Australian dollar.

Given all the above, it is no surprise that double glazing is much cheaper to install in England than Australia. So most people here just put up with the 3-5mm panes of glass installed in their houses by default.

  • The reasons our houses aren’t as well insulated comes down to climate and cost.

Climate, people don’t die from extreme temperatures here like they do in places like Europe and North America.

Cost, we don’t have the demand for better thermal protection so anyone who wants to improve their home has to pay.

I’m in the process of trying to improve my home atm. I’ve had the blow in insulation replaced with batts, I’m replacing the windows with double glazing and I am trying to seal all of the gaps and vents that let out the heat. It will cost me 10’s of thousands of dollars by the time I’m finished, but it will make our house comfortable without costing us a fortune when we are retired.

  • Nato summit: Ukraine on 'irreversible path' to membership
  • I wasnt acting like there was no risk, 1 nuke is too many, especially when a dictator has his finger on the button. Russia might have the highest quantity of nukes, but i'd be surprised if they had the most working nukes as the US stockpile isnt far off Russia's.

Regardless, I wouldnt let the fact Russia is a nuclear capable nation deter us from doing what is right.

  • Nato summit: Ukraine on 'irreversible path' to membership
  • Where do you draw the line? If you are happy to give up Ukraine to avoid a nuclear war, where do you stop? Can he take all of Eastern Europe? What about the whole of Europe? Everywhere except your country?

Putin is a bully, and you stand up to bullies.

Besides, he might have the most nukes, but given the maintenance costs for 5,000+ of them and the corruption in Russia, most of them probably won’t work.

  • Project 2025 was supposed to boost Donald Trump's campaign — but now it may be backfiring
  • Trump is too arrogant to be a puppet president, especially for a cause that he doesn't believe in. For that to work, they would need some way to control him and now he cant be charged with any crimes blackmail isnt an option. If they push him too far he might use Putin's playbook and have people accidentally fall out of a window.

  • Project 2025 was supposed to boost Donald Trump's campaign — but now it may be backfiring
  • You’re forgetting though that Trump isn’t a religious nut job, he is just using them to get what he wants. While he’ll happily be elevated to the level of a king he isn’t likely to outlaw adultery and having children out of wedlock.

If we want to go next level conspiracy theory, wait for the vice president to be announced. If its an ultra conservative, middle aged white man, Trump may only have minutes in office before he is tragically assassinated, and then Project 2025 will really kick off.

  • Automating roller blinds

I have 2 windows/doors in my living room which have 3 roller blinds each (6 in total) that I'm in the process of automating. I have purchased and installed 1 Zigbee motor that goes inside the tube that can lift 4kg using 0.8nm of torque, this is working well and I want to buy the rest. A couple of the blinds are longer and I am considering a 2nm version which can handle 10kg. If install a mix of these motors will they all move at the same rate or will they operate at different speeds?

When I press the button I want all of the blinds to raise/lower at the same speed.

    Any advice appreciated.

When browsing All it would be great if the app could identify in some way the subs I’m not subscribed to. Given there are now multiple subs with the same name, this would help to identify which ones I am not subbed to when scrolling.
