  • "Bloody Just Stop Oil protesters blocking the road, preventing me to go to work just so they can spread the message that we're all going to die! I HAVE A MORTGAGE!"

  • Thanks, this seems like a very thorough description of the situation. My limited understanding of how coding works and has worked through history is like you say "filled with a lot of jank" regarding memory because it was limited but also because compilers weren't as efficient as they are today. So it makes sense that there are purists that believes the only good code is the one where programmers are in total control of every bit of memory themselves instead of leaving anything to automation.

  • That's actually really cool. I like that the dev has expressed that he doesn't want to make the algorithm addictive and just keep it random 😅

  • Mine is a hack job, mostly a placeholder really,I just took the most used from WinCompose of all places, but have at it.

  • Who am I to say that one can make a file in the home folder called .XCompose where you can easily input emoticons for easy access using the compose key ¯( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • Classic. But yeah, that's how I'm reading the situation as well.

  • Most comments with links are straight up deleted from YT comments. Moderation has gotten pretty strict there since covid.

  • I began using SMPlayer, which uses MPV, and yeah, it was confusing having to mess around in %localappdata%. But unironically, having to do so kinda prepared me for the switch to linux, what with getting used to using the filesystem.

  • It's just a happy accident that I had my 15 year old reddit account banned for calling out one of the many karmafarmers on the site. You know, the ones that'll post something, get a bunch of upvotes (who knows if botted or not), then delete said post a couple of hours later. Who am I to tell if there's a botting conspiracy there or not, but so much reposted slop ends up on r/all all the time. Anyway, glad I've, albeit forced, moved on just in time for the site to implode.

  • Some of the comments on that article made me realise I'm a bit out of the loop: what makes Asahi linux "woke"?
It is sad though that there is so much drama around linux development. It's easy for me to say this, but I do think it's important that there is a switch to a newer language like Rust away from C eventually.

  • At least it's a floater, means you got enough dietary fiber.

  • Maybe I have some internalized aussiephobia or something, but this read as an Australian to me.

  • Took me a little while to figure out where to put the .ipk3 file (easiest is ~/.config/gzdoom) but otherwise easy enough to get going using the flatpak version of GZDoom. Installing the regular gamefiles + spear of destiny (from my GOG version) was also pretty easy, but I wonder where one can get Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge 🤔

Either way, good shout, plays excellently, although seems like hitting enemies is harder in this version than the original, at least when they're far away.

  • Unironically the YT algorithm that pushed me into videos that eventually made me get diagnosed by a professional.

  • You watch one video about old people reacting to rage against the machine and suddenly all the recommended videos are by "reactors" that make $50k a month doing nothing but watching movies with their mouth open

  • I mean, I am a dairy man by trade, so.. But I don't know anything about crackers :)

  • Pointing out nepotism is always be relevant in my opinion.

  • I'd probably say too much if I put it plain, but there's a pretty good 2001 Nicole Kidman movie about this.

  • It is nice to have guard rails like a GUI until you grasp the possibilities, that's how I've learned historically coming from DOS and Windows at least, but you can still mess things up plenty with this tool.
