Why we cook at home rule
  • The gaslighting bothers me the most. “The soft landing worked! The economy is great! Look at all these jobs!” Are they good jobs? Do they pay enough to live? Why has the price of everything gone up so much? It’s eerie being lied to on such a massive scale like this. Very much a superb example of “don’t piss in my ear and tell me it’s raining.”

  • Men over 30, what has been your experience with therapy? Did it improve your life?
  • Yes and no. I’ve had a phenomenal couple’s counselor that saved my relationship. I’ve had other therapists where my basic impression was that I’d tell them a problem I had, and their response was that I needed to tell myself “it’s not that bad.” I don’t blame them, it’s very hard to rewire depression that I’ve had since I was 8.

I think you need to shop around for someone that works for you. It’s incredibly difficult, and frankly there’s not enough professionals to go around. You can’t be afraid to fire a therapist that isn’t working. You also have to put in a lot of work outside of your sessions. I can empathize with the people who said it didn’t work for them, it’s rare and complicated to find someone that can work with you and for you.

  • Why do posts frequently get removed on Lemmy when Reddit would not remove them?
  • I am on Lemmy because on Reddit, a subreddit moderator went through my post history, saw me complaining about them taking down a post for no reason, and decided that was brigading. They proceeded to have my account banned from Reddit entirely for ban evasion, something I did not do. Whatever Lemmy moderators are or are not removing, I am certain they are more reasonable and judicious than any Reddit moderator.
