Many of us survived that dark day
  • Working in IT at the time, we were fairly sure things would be fine by the time New Years Eve rolled around,. Even going so far as to camp overnight outside at the Rose Parade, a wild time on a normal year and ridiculous in 1999 with Colorado Blvd packed with partyers.

The moment came and, of course, nothing really happened...except some GENIUS thought it would be a good idea to set off a giant firework at the college next door, scaring the living shit out of a few thousand people. Good times.

  • Removed
Slack is now using all content, including DMs, to train LLMs
  • The problem is where you said "as long as" because we already know companies AND the AI itself can't be trusted to not expose sensitive info inadvertently. At absolute best, it's another vector to be breached.

  • Tesla is being investigated by the DOJ for securities and wire fraud by making misleading self-driving claims
  • "The market" (stocks) has been and will continue to be divorced from reality but to play devil's advocate, Tesla and it's investors consider it "more than just a car company". It's still ridiculous, but that's the market for ya.

  • Supreme Court will weigh banning homeless people from sleeping outside
  • Actually, it doesn't. Instead of looking at the nuance of the progressive side, you only need to look at the complete lack of vision, policies and outright lies that the right is now full of. Not just voting against their constituents wishes but against their OWN policies. Defense bills that might make a democrat look good, can't have that. Healthcare plans that they champion until Obama's name is on it. And those are just the low hanging, obvious fruit.

"Both sides" have their issues but it's crystal fucking clear which one has gone off the rails and is against almost everything this country was founded on. If you can't see it, you're bubbled. Plain and simple.

  • What's your favorite *bad* cyberpunk movie?
  • Along with Sneakers (1992), it's still regarded as one of the most accurate hacking movies ever despite the over the top visuals (which were all practical, no CGI). Most of those social engineering tricks still work.

  • Elon Musk's X pushed a fake headline about Iran attacking Israel. X's AI chatbot Grok made it up.
  • Yet, annoyingly, much of the press still uses it to disseminate news.

I understand journalism is in a rough spot these days and many are there against their will but something needs to change abruptly. This slow exodus is too slow for democracy to survive '24.

  • Low Dust Formula
  • World's Best doesn't either, they use a thicker, different material that cuts way down on dust. It doesn't quite clump as well as others but it's close enough for me.

  • [FR] Swipe voting is the ONLY thing missing from Boost, something many others have

I've seen a handful of posts mentioning swipe to upvote/downvote being one of the greatest things found in other clients and seems to be the one big feature missing here.

I love my Boost (so glad it came over) and paid for ad removal, but browsing on Voyager or Sync is much more fluid and helps me contribute to Lemmy more often, something I'd love to do with Boost.

If it's being worked on, apologies. If not, I hope it gets added to the queue!
