You're too slow!
  • This just sounds like a manager has a metric of “all prescriptions must be ready in x minutes” and it is easier for the pharmacist to just click “it’s ready” before the alarm goes off.

  • Up is an illusion in space
  • North is determined by the rotation of the planet. The sun sets in the west, and if you are facing west, north is to your right. This is true for any planet/moon and doesn’t have anything to do with magnets.

  • It just feels wrong
  • I have a Synology NAS, and the account you create with them is separate from the ones you create on the device. They couldn't log into my device. Their account allows for easy integration with their stuff like the dynamic dns or other outside services. I like it because if my internet goes down, I get an email saying they lost connection, which is great for diagnostics.

If I set up my router to block all traffic to them, it would not prevent me from using the device.

  • It just feels wrong
  • This is true. You create a plex account, which allows you to log in from anywhere and will give you access to your media. The real problem is that if your outside internet goes down, you can't log into your own server.

  • Customer service
  • It is a problem, my shield tv started having ads on the home page, but I was able to install a new launcher on it to fix that.

Overall having a media player plugged in to a disconnected tv is the way to go. It is easier to replace a chromecast than the whole tv.

    They're doing Civ 7 already
  • Alpha Centauri was awesome, but so were a lot of the other games. Colonization was a lot of fun. Call to Power is the civ game I want a real sequel to. Going way into the future tech was a lot of fun, and being able to build cities at the bottom of the ocean.

Of course, I think the whole franchise has gone downhill since Civ IV, so take my opinion as you will.

  • Jellyfin Android TV client v0.16.11 released
  • Does anyone know what the release schedule is for 0.17? It has some features I am interested in.

If it is just “when it is ready” that is fine, I’m just wondering if there is a plan or not.

  • I never noticed it was him in X-Men: Apocalypse
  • This was very common in old-school Hollywood. It's why we have the term Movie Stars. People would go out of their way to watch an Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cary Grant, whoever movie, when the people who were really good character actors slipped in the background just making movies better.

  • We found this old matchbook in our kitchen. It's for a coroner's election. The Democrat candidate is on one side and the Republican candidate is on the other.
  • My county changed the sheriff position from elected to appointed by the county council a few years back. A bunch of people flipped out over it but I think it has been great.

As a side note, why do counties tend to have councils running them instead of an executive, who would get the title "Count". We need more Counts in America.

  • Fafo
  • It's pretty obvious she has a career writing magazine articles complaining about her life, so she should have some sort of income, and alimony shouldn't count. Never mind all of the infidelity that everyone else is mentioning.

  • What is going on with golf courses being shit down?

There has been several conservative memes about golf courses going away or liberals taking them away. Did I miss some news about that?

    RAM Upgrade on DS920+

I have a DS920+ which I haven't upgraded the ram for, so it still has the default 4GB on it. Reading around, it sounds like Synology only supports adding an additional 4GB for it, but some other sites mention putting an additional 8 or 16 into it.

Has anyone upgraded theirs with more ram? What have you added and what were your experiences?
