Best/usable free Evernote alternative
  • I recently tried UpNote which is pretty cross platform.

Maybe give that a try and if you like it, they have a lifetime license.

(I'm not affiliated with them but I've tried every major note taking app and recently landed on this one that I've been pretty happy with)

  • Can anyone recommend a better note taking app than the default?
  • I've been through Evernote, Apple Notes, OneNote, and Notion.

I highly recommend "UpNote" which is cross platform and has awesome sync. You can pay a small monthly fee or grab it for the lifetime fee which is incredibly affordable. I recently switched over for work and personal and I'm so glad I did.

  • Does it feel like the fediverse is exclusively used by older tech nerds?
  • Same here! I'm always surprised by people now refusing to consider the idea, just wanting one universal company/service. It's like they can make room for email in their understanding, but can't do that again today. 🤷‍♀️

  • Recommended Banks, let's share!

I wanted to mention some good Japanese banks for those looking:

SBI Net Bank: If you can read Japanese, this is one of the best UIs and mobile apps around. You also get a ton of free furikomi transfers per month (I think I have about 10)

Shinsei Bank: A physical bank but also offers online options with an English UI for those that need it. This seems to be the go-to recommended bank for expats.

Sony Bank: I have this bank specifically because all incoming international money transfers are free, meaning they don't charge you any fees to receive it. SBI used to charge be about 2500 yen every time I received international payments, even in yen. Shinsei has a system where they reimburse you each month if you have a certain amount in your account, so international money transfers will eventually be almost free.

How about you? What banks have you been happy with?
