what's your current linux distro?
  • PopOS for me. I have played around with Linux in the past, but never seriously dived into it. The whole Windows 11 Recall fracas changed that. I went with Pop because it's an out-of-the-box distro. Everything just works, and it has Nvidia and AMD graphics support baked in. I used to not like Gnome, but it's kinda growing on me now. Then again, that's the beauty of this OS: Don't like the desktop environment? Download a new one from a bunch of alternatives. Current distro not floating your boat? Make some bootable USB drives of different distros and take them for a test run.

    It's a beautiful thing.

  • I dunno. I like their earlier stuff.

  • Tesla CyberBus
  • I'd take a sandcrawler over a cyber truck any day of the week.

  • Windows 11 is now an ad platform--this is why we're here
  • I regret upgrading to 11 on my home machine. I want to either go back to 10, or just migrate to Linux Mint. Only two things stopping me from jumping is a) My graphics are Nvidia, and b) making time for it.

  • Good chair that is *affordable* ?
  • Forgive me if I am hijacking the thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for a chair that can accommodate a big dude? Like 330 lbs or so? I ordered one off Amazon, and it didn't last 6 months.

  • I'll throw in a recommendation for Notesnook. It's available on all platforms, syncs across devices, is e2e encrypted, handles tables, and you can organize notes via notebooks, If you need to get a bit more granular, you can subdivide notebooks via topics. It also handles markdown. I pay around $5.00/month for a pro account, and am getting more than my money's worth.

  • are shotcut and kdenlive any good video editors? just curious

  • What song still emotionally "destroys" you today? And why?
  • 1916 by Motorhead.

Quite possibly the most heartbreaking anti-war song ever written.

  • Bring Back Armistice Day
  • "I will come to a time in my backwards trip when November eleventh, accidentally my birthday, was a sacred day called Armistice Day. When I was a boy, and when Dwayne Hoover was a boy, all the people of all the nations which had fought in the First World War were silent during the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of Armistice Day, which was the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

It was during that minute in nineteen hundred and eighteen, that millions upon millions of human beings stopped butchering one another. I have talked to old men who were on battlefields during that minute. They have told me in one way or another that the sudden silence was the Voice of God. So we still have among us some men who can remember when God spoke clearly to mankind.

Armistice Day has become Veterans' Day. Armistice Day was sacred. Veterans' Day is not.

So I will throw Veterans' Day over my shoulder. Armistice Day I will keep. I don't want to throw away any sacred things."

  • The Commodores "Night Shift"

    Lyrics:

Marvin, he was a friend of mine And he could sing a song, his heart in every line Marvin sang of the joy and pain He opened up our minds, and I still can hear him say "Aw talk to me, so you can see, what's going on" Say you will sing your songs forevermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds, coming down on the night shift I bet you're singing proud, I bet you'll pull a crowd Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right, on the night shift You found another home, I know you're not alone, on the night shift You found another home, I know you're not alone, on the night shift

Jackie, hey what you doing now? It seems like yesterday when we were working out Jackie, you set the world on fire You came and gifted us, your love it lifted us higher and higher Keep it up and we'll be there at your side Say you will sing your songs forevermore

Gonna be some sweet sounds, coming down on the night shift I bet you're singing proud, I bet you'll pull a crowd Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right, on the night shift You found another home, I know you're not alone, on the night shift Gonna be some sweet sounds, coming down on the night shift I bet you're singing proud, I bet you'll pull a crowd Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right, on the night shift You found another home, I know you're not alone, on the night shift Gonna miss your sweet voice, that soulful noise, on the night shift We all remember you, your songs are coming through And at the end of a long day, it's gonna be okay, on the night shift You found another home, I know you're not alone, on the night shift

The Plimsouls - Oldest Story In The World - 1983

One of the greatest break-up songs ever written.

    Lyrics:

It makes perfect sense Seeing how the seeds were sown To find you out there on your own You said your goodbyes And broke all the ties It struck me dumb To think I tried for you Tonight you can feel The seasons changing You'll never change When you're no better than the weather You're cool But there's rain in your heart You're blowin' like a feather

And that's the oldest story in the world You lost the key to paradise That's the oldest story in the world

Did we have it made? Somehow I thought we could remain If nothing lasts No one's to blame And you can't look back To where you got off the track That's a mystery that we'll never crack

It's just the oldest story in the world We lost the key to paradise That's the oldest story in the world Someday we gotta to set it right And that's the oldest story in the world You'll hear it again and again That's the oldest story in the world, yeah

Somehow I thought we could remain If nothing lasts No one's to blame And you can't look back To where you got off the track That's a mystery that we'll never crack

And that's the oldest story in the world Lost the key to paradise That's the oldest story in the world Someday we gotta to set it right That's the oldest story in the world Just like a rolling stone That's the oldest story, that's the oldest story Now you can't go home And that's the oldest story in the world, yeah

"Well, I don't want to leave But it's time to go" "Where?" "Well, I just don't know" And that's the oldest story in the world
