[Meme] Which movie was this for you?
  • Kangaroo Jack (2003) for me. It's not objectively good but I found it silly and fun, and it's one of my dad's favorite movies. Never really understood why it's so panned (9% critic and 29% audience on Rotten Tomatoes)

  • Criterion’s 24-hour sale slashes 50% off every Blu-ray
  • Ah, I missed it again! And just by a few hours. Is there some kind of mailing list or something to sign up for to find out when this happens? Since I gave up Reddit and YouTube I am way out of the loop on these things. Would have picked up several titles too, since it's been a couple years...

Some of the best movies from the past century are heavily discounted.

This year's 50% off B&N Summer sale runs through July 28.

I missed Criterion's flash sale earlier this year so I'll probably stock up on this one sometime next week.

Another hit to physical media as Target lays out plans to ditch in-store DVD and Blu-ray sales
  • This is a shame, but it's understandable. Just as long as they don't cut back on what they carry online. They have a fantastic online selection which the stores never really matched. Some of their sales made it possible to grab Criterion blu rays for cheaper than the 50% off sales at B&N.

  • Bowl Games Mega Thread
  • I missed the kickoff of the Independence Bowl and am bummed I missed Cal scoring. Hopefully there's lots of points and the Red Raiders lose (I probably won't be staying up for the end of this one)

  • Just tuning in now, good Lord this weather is atrocious.

Thanks for creating this post, btw. I tried to make a gameday thread before I went out this morning but it didn't go through in the browser. Wonder if the new Lemmy update is causing that glitch

Edit: woops, wrong account. It's so easy to get mixed up on mobile. Aaand it won't let me switch so I guess I'll be posting from here

  • Criterion flash sale has started. 50% off at their website for 24hrs
  • I hadn't taken part in the flash sale for a couple years (and I skipped the last B&N sale), so I went a little big on this one. Ordered:

    • The Lady Vanishes (1938)
    • Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)
    • His Girl Friday (1940)
    • Some Like It Hot (1959)
    • Fail Safe (1964)
  • [Weekly thread] What is the best movie you watched last week? 15 October
  • I watched four films this week, all of which I'd seen before (so clearly I quite like them all):

    • It Happened One Night (1934)
    • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
    • Foreign Correspondent (1940)
    • 21 Jump Street (2012)

Really tough to choose one, but would probably have to give the nod to Mr Smith. Jimmy Stewart is just too good.
