YSK about Stanislav Petrov, awarded in 2006 as "the man who averted nuclear war"

  • yea it's absolutely crazy! These concluding books, even though I had read through the whole thing before, shocked me on the last reread all over again.

you're right about the expansion of the size of their forces completely changing the game, I think it's really interesting how the authors name and count every single individual added to the animorphs, it's a good way to make you keep in mind that even though there are more kids, every single one is a person individually deciding to go to actual war and take real risks.

  • You nailed the analysis here. This is definitely where things get real and then keep getting crazier.

There are a few points where the storied naive adventure spirit tries to reestablish a foothold, but there is an irreversible, looming atmosphere of perilous, mournful tunnel-vision insanity from this point forth.

It's very impressive how faithful the authors were able to remain to their vision for the series and their empathy for child soldiers and war=bad.

    Yikes. strap in!

  • I'm with you, Mario 64 is one of my all time favorites.

i still play it every few years and sometimes I'll get the urge to watch the latest world-record speedrun, it's so much fun to even just watch.

pretty much the only game i do that with.

great screenshots too. there are so many mods for SM64 but I almost always play vanilla, so it's fun to see you guys as different characters.

SM64 Toad is a psychopath for sure.

congrats on getting to share the game with your friend, and almost hitting a year with your screenshots!

YSK the FDA has granted psilocybin treatments for depression "breakthrough therapy" status 3 times since 2018

  • "does this count as bringing sources to the table?"

yes, providing relevant sources counts as "bringing sources to the table".

"are you going to delete my comments again?"

nope, your previous comments were deleted for alarmism and lacking sources.

now you are sharing your own experience and general facts about psilocybin dosage supported with evidence.

    looks good to me.

  • You're conflating LSD and psilocybin, two completely different chemicals with entirely different risk profiles.

you are also making alarmist claims without any evidence.

LSD is physiologically and psychologically dangerous.

psilocybin is physiologically safe and is only a psychological risk if you already have complicating factors.

    https://nida.nih.gov/research-topics/psilocybin-magic-mushrooms#%3A%7E%3Atext=The+risk+of+mental+health%2Cresearch+on+psilocybin+is+low.

please provide evidence if you want to make such far-reaching claims conflating two entirely different chemicals.

  • Your concern over dosage(~25g) is directly contradicted by evidence.

show your sources. this community requires evidence for claims.

25 grams of mushrooms is not a very high dose for experienced users or for patients in therapeutical settings.

Setting is always crucial to a psychedelic experience, according to the FDA, NIH, and psychedelic communities.

magic mushrooms should be taken responsibly, and people following the basic recommended guidelines will be fine.

you can tell your own story without exaggerating things.

baseless alarmism is specifically what this post is fighting against.

  • glossing over? by directly addressing your concerns?

I wasn't with you when you took that fateful trip, so I am not absolutely certain what went wrong for you. I'm responding to the story you've provided.

Setting is very important during a psychedelic trip, and putting on a loud, emotionally aggressive movie that starts with a creepy mannequin is not a psychedelics setting I would ever recommend.

you are making very strong recommendations to other people based on your single anecdotal experience.

  • @Agent641@lemmy.world

Setting is important and that sounds like a terrible movie to do mushrooms on, especially with the creepy mannequin in the beginning.

That said, I think if people are following general recommended procedures, they should try magic mushrooms.

magic mushrooms are physiologically safe, mind-broadening, non-habit forming, even therapeutically recommended by the FDA.

if you're texting while driving you can crash your car, but that doesn't mean you should never drive.

especially if you want to go somewhere.
