Why does Proton Pass Plus cost more on the 24-month plan?
  • I’m guessing it’s because they recently lowered the prices from 3.99, so the price isn’t infinitely fixed. Currently they have lower costs, just like a loan with flexible interest might be better in the short run, it might rise in the future.

Or they forgot to adjust the 24 month plan.

  • How does Proton justify its free options?
  • Unlike many internet companies that depend on invading your privacy to sell ads, Proton is funded by revenue from paid plans. Because we rely on you for funding, and because you rely on Proton to protect your data, we’re always incentivized to keep your data secure and private.

Your subscription pays for the development of new features and services, as well as the cost of running Proton. By upgrading to a paid plan, not only will you get access to advanced features, you’ll support our mission to provide citizens around the world with an internet where privacy is the default.

  • Locked Removed
"ProtonMail is subject to surveillance due to its location in Switzerland." Thoughts on the video.
  • Well, since he’s not backing up anything with facts, I’d say the whole video is about his opinions on different email services. I’d say he’s allowed to have his opinions, but it’s rather careless to voice these opinions to the public, since he’s trying to make them come off as facts.

Instead of baiting on these (there are A LOT of them) articles and random videos on YouTube claiming this and that, go to reputable sources for privacy news/aritcles/reviews.

  • Goodbye Skiff
  • The difference between Proton/Tuta is that they’re self-sustainable and has been around for 10+ years. While they’re not Google/Outlook, they’re not startups like Skiff was. They don’t have investors waiting for a solid ROI, and while both companies marketing/communication has been misleading, there are no signs that either would have the same end goal as Skiff (i.e. sell out and cash in).

  • Goodbye Skiff
  • Haven’t been on reddit in ages, but with his active presence in the forum on PG I can see him going on there too. Marketing works and people were actively looking for reasons to find alternatives to primarily Proton, which he clearly knew and took full advantage off.

Hopefully there’ll be a mass exodus from Skiff, and in the end a bad deal for Notion, that will discourage these kinds of money grabs in the future.

  • Goodbye Skiff
  • Sad for the people who got tricked into their services from their aggressive marketing. Their CEO seemed very eager to do the right thing on the privacyguides forum, but clearly the plan was to sell as soon as he got a decent offer.
