Docker should be completely replaced by Nix in almost every situation I’ve seen Docker used…and in those rare cases where you’re having someone download a blob, it is almost always better to use OCI, a VM, or Kubernetes instead.

no downsides other than:

• no one knowing how anything works anymore/making everyone dumber and worse at deploying software
• no one has any incentive to be efficient with their software deployments
• everyone needing to download a gigantic docker container instead of a simple binary just to get it to work.
• lack of segmentation means that multiple containers can be vulnerable to host system attacks

In 10 years, we will laugh at people who put everything in a separate Docker container.

Here’s how I plan to solve it on my seedbox:

In the bash script I use to download and rename files using filebot, I added an mkvalidator step at the beginning. If the file doesn’t pass the check, it doesn’t go onto the next step.

mkvalidator is a simple command line tool to verify Matroska and WebM files for spec conformance. It checks the various bogus or missing key elements against the EBML DocType version of the file and reports the errors/warnings in the command line.
