Turkey suspends trade with Israel
  • the wife of a guy in our office said that they got a late night e-mail explaining this situation and said that all invoices now would be addressed to jordanian firms, but the outcome won't change. there is not a single soul they wouldn't slaughter just to get that sweet sweet dollar bills.

and by the way, based purely on my real life experience, i don't see people complaining about this. i have heard a lot of my friends saying "why did hamas do something like this knowing perfectly well that israel would behave this way?".

as a country, turkey has been a lost cause since the 1980 coup. october 7th just made everyone sure of that.

  • I'm case y'all wondering how operations genocide guardian is going
  • the port of eilat accounted for 3% of the total shipping before october 7th and they got the land corridor through saudi arabia and jordan replacing that pretty immediately. at this point it's just imperial arrogance.

it's clear that nothing will be able to stop imperialism but violance.

  • i'm all for periodic contributions through channels like open collective but bounties rarely get to the point of being persuading.

for a couple of years now my favorite foss project has been blender bim addon and its community osarch.

it has a unique aspect. the software stack it's trying to be an alternative of includes giants like autodesk, nemetchek etc. although it's a gigantic shoe to fill, it has been really really successful at doing what it's doing. i have been using it for a year now and cannot fathom to go back.

the community consists of experienced construction sector people and a decent amount of them are directly involved in the software development, be it coding, bug triage, educational content, technical support etc.

i guess the thing that makes a project tick is having a working state software, the degree to which is not important, and being community oriented.

  • If Architects had to work like Programmers
  • this is literally how we work now in construction. because everything is digital people think that this is an acceptable approach. all my costing files are purposefully extremely dynamic.

you want to add another floor? no problem.

you want to change some floors from 3 bedroom to 2 bedroom? no problem.

you want to remove a parking floor and have outside parking? no problem. you don't want to have low hanging beams? no problem.

and so on and so on...

i know i should not be working like this, but sometimes i have to.

  • What's the most creative or unconventional use of Git you've encountered?
  • ifc-git.

ifc is an iso standard for 3d construction projects, which includes all aspects of a building data. because ifc is in human-readable form, versions of the same project can be diffed, hence ifc git.

this is a really underappreciated project.

  • Anyone have info on the PKK?
  • the inception of pkk was a very "weird" time for turkey. in 1980 there was a coup d'eta following a large scale years-long popular socialist uprising. this uprising was first followed by reactionary opposition. it was called right vs left but it was basically communists vs fascists. the coup government was very brutal. they spared most of the fascists and communists were subjected to unimaginable methods of torture, and executions.

also after the coup, kurdish was forbidden, location names were changed and kurdish population was met with insane oppresion.

in this climate, any force that countered that oppression would be welcome. that's what pkk did. they are communists, but have swayed towards right. especially in syria (as pyd). they seem to want to become the government rather than become a socialist force now.

this article is a nice summary. i don't have pinpoint exaples, sorry.

they always had their political parties banned and set up under a new name. until recently i voted for that party. i would still do but we have a decent communist party now with delegates in the parliament.

  • Anyone have info on the PKK?
  • that terrorist list is just a tool for imperialism. you can see it clearly in the yemen situation, they got out of the list and got right back in. it's basically carrot/stick for the relations between turkey.

what i mean by aligning is: they are an insurgency, so their fight can be a catalyst for totally different projects, as we saw in libya. but sometimes they really do some stuff that benefits both themselves and imperialism, even though it hurts the proletariat.

  • Anyone have info on the PKK?
  • pkk is short for partiya karkeren kurdistan, which in kurdish means kurdistan workers party. they're definitely not liberal, not in the name and not in practice. but the ways they operate is always "icky". their actions regularly align with the us hegemony. "kurdish problem" has always been an important issue in turkey, and for the last 40 years pkk has been the dominant force to agitate that.

  • [Lemoa] Adding Some Instances Won't Work

Hi everyone, I have been trying to get Lemoa to work on my PostmarketOS setup.

At first run, I tried to add an instance. There are two choices: Public and Custom. When Public is selected nothing happens, I don't even know if something should happen. And when Custom is selected it asks for an instance url. When I input lemmy.world or lemm.ee it works. But when I input lemmy.ml or lemmygrad.ml it just says "error decoding response body: expected value at line 1 column 1". I guess it's an error regarding the language the program was written, which is Rust, and that it cannot interpret the url, I'm not sure.

I thought .ml TLD might be the reason, being not so popular, I don't know. But so is .ee, and it works.

I don't have a github account so i can't open an issue there, hopefully the developer sees this post, or if anyone else here had the same problem they can enlighten me.
