  • As President Biden says, American workers and businesses can outcompete anyone—as long as they have fair competition. But for too long, China’s government has used unfair, non-market practices. China’s forced technology transfers and intellectual property theft have contributed to its control of 70, 80, and even 90 percent of global production for the critical inputs necessary for our technologies, infrastructure, energy, and health care—creating unacceptable risks to America’s supply chains and economic security. Furthermore, these same non-market policies and practices contribute to China’s growing overcapacity and export surges that threaten to significantly harm American workers, businesses, and communities.

What president Biden is saying here is that Americans can't outcompete anyone without having monopoly on intellectual property lmao. Is it fair competition when one party holds the know-how and extracts rent from it? Of course not, when the playing field was leveled they didn't have a chance against China.

  • How socially conservative are China and Vietnam, and how can they realistically become more progressive?
  • Yea, these things take time to catch up, you can still see this on the West. Its mostly the old people that are reactionary on social issues, newer generations require some heavy indoctrination to turn out as conservative as them.

China went from economically backwards to a highly developed in the span of 30 years, id bet the avg age in China is above that!

  • How socially conservative are China and Vietnam, and how can they realistically become more progressive?
  • Time and economic development. Social development has not caught up with economic development because the pace of economic development has been ridiculous.

  • No ones ever gonna do it like him again
  • Its even funnier with context, orange man was complaining about mental illness and the places where they treat mental illness. He suddenly comes out with hannibal, which to my interpretation, implies that mentally ill people used to be funny/great? at least. ( He can't possibly think that hannibal is a real person right? )

Even if it doesn't make sense, mentioning a cult film like that will earn him votes.

Javier Milei on the campaign trail, eight months ago: "Not only am I not going to do business with China, I am not going to do business with any communist."

Turns out Argentina and many more countries rely on Chinese companies even to produce bills 😅

    >Some governments have asked Beijing not to publicise the deal because they are worried such information could compromise national security or trigger “unnecessary debates at home”, the person said.

They even know it's shameful lmao.

I wonder how many more "invisible" industries China dominates, i always assumed that central banks had the monopoly on producing their own physical currencies but turns out i was wrong.

Russia Lifts Suspension on Imports of Ecuadorian Bananas After Collapse of US-Ecuador Arms Deal | naked capitalism
www.nakedcapitalism.com Russia Lifts Suspension on Imports of Ecuadorian Bananas After Collapse of US-Ecuador Arms Deal | naked capitalism

This could be another embarrassing setback for US foreign policy, this time in its so-called "back yard" (or as Biden calls it, "front yard").

This situation shows that the US does not have the economic power it used to have, Russian sanctions over banana imports were enough to sway Ecuador away from the arms deal. Overall it's a pretty funny situation where both Ecuador and the US look very silly.

The Scourge of Corporate Financialization: Income Inequity, Employment Instability, Productive Fragility | naked capitalism

Interesting in-depth read on stock buybacks and the main perpetrators (Apple is #1 of course). Stock buybacks are corporate corruption, where senior executives cash in the profits of the company by getting paid in stocks and then colluding to use the company profits to buy stocks (thus artificially inflating the value of stocks) and then dumping them. Literally a pump and dump scheme.

When someone mentions that there is no corruption in the private sector, send them this article.

What is the most disgusting political party of your country?

Of course all political parties are disgusting in liberal democracies but there are some that just are insane.

In Mexico it has to be PAN, they're your usual latin american conservative party. Elitists, very catholic, racists, malinchistas ( they hate mexico and its culture ). Right now they're going insane because a former secretary of national security was declared guilty off collaborating with drug cartels in a US jury ( they idolize the US so this is funny af )
