AI the Product vs AI the Feature

I'm an avid Marques fan, but for me, he didn't have to make that vid. It was just a set of comparisons. No new info. No interesting discussion. Instead he should've just shared that Wired podcast episode on his X.

I wonder if Apple is making their own large language model (llm) and it'll be released this year or next year. Or are they still musing re the cost-benefit analysis? If they think that an Apple llm won't earn that much profit, they may not make 1.

McDonald’s will stop testing AI to take drive-thru orders, for now
  • Yes, 👍 apps.

The issue with touchscreen kiosks is that some have short arms.

On another note, I get the benefits of computer-voice-operated drive-thrus. No need to use your phone. If your phone's 🔋 is 3%, you can still buy food.

  • Props to the Celtics. I think their high field goal percent was 1 of the factors behind their brilliance. Sometimes they were cold for a period of time, but they remained poised. So they usually avoided an offensive collapse.

:( for Irving. He had a clutch image and it was replaced by a choker image.

  • We need the 2016-Nba-finals Irving.

Doncic was the only Mav playing good. The Mavs will lose games 3 and 4 if this will continue. I hope this was just a road thing. I hope the other Mavs will play good at home.

  • 1 of the 👍 points that were brought up was artificial gatekeeping. Many techies know it but I guess many non-techies don't know it. Phone makers intentionally not putting the newest features on the old phones to boost the newest phones' sales should be widely known. I wonder what the public opinion will be.

  • I watched Nvidia's Computex 2024 keynote and it made my blood run cold
  • I like that the writer thought re climate change. I think it's been 1 of the biggest global issues for a long time. I hope there'll be increasing use of sustainable energy for not just data centers but the whole tech world in the coming years.

I think a digital waiter doesn't need a rendered human face. We have food ordering kiosks. Those aren't ai. I think those suffice. A self-checkout grocer kiosk doesn't need a face too.

I think "client help" is where ai can at least aid. Imagine a firm that's been operating for decades and encountered so many kinds of client complaints. It can feed all those data to a large language model. With that model responding to most of the client complaints, the firm can reduce the number of their client support people. The model will pass the complaints that are so complex or that it doesn't know how to address to the client support people. The model will handle the easy and medium complaints; the client support people will handle the rest.

Idk whether the government or the public should stop ai from taking human jobs or let it. I'm torn. Optimistically, workers can find new jobs. But we should imagine that at least 1 human will be fired and can't find a new job. He'll be jobless for months. He'll have an epic headache as he can't pay next month's bills.

  • Rog ally x and Asus' warranty issues

    > y2u.be/b6ymEz1PmBc > > Dave said that the Ally (not Ally x) was too cheap, maybe. Maybe Asus didn't include the cost of customer help in it. Hence the warranty issues. > > I'm not convinced. Asus is a big firm. If they mistakenly made the Ally too cheap, they could eat the cost of customer help. It's just right to provide 👍 warranty service. And the Ally is their 1st handheld. They wanted to build a 👍 reputation. Also, other Asus items had warranty issues. They must fix their internal process.

what lemmy app do you recommend and why?
  • I'm OK with the ads. The coder didn't put disappointingly many ads. And the few ads I saw weren't annoying. I hope the ad $ has been a 👍 reward for the coder for making and maintaining Sync.

    I <3 the user interface's design. It's Google's design.

  • [Game Thread] 27-28 MAY 2024 - Conference Finals Game 4s
  • There were at least 2 times in game 4 when Brown got past his defender and there was a help defender. I thought it was the right defensive play. Easy layup for Brown if there was no help defense.

On another note, I guess 1 of the things that the Pacers tried to prevent was the Celtic shooters getting hot. Hard to beat the Celtics when they're raining threes. I googled. They have the most 3-pointers made in the 2024 playoffs. The Pacers rank 4th.

  • What's up with all the ads here?
  • What do you mean? When I lurk here, I ignore the sites that Idk. I rely on sites that I know are legit like Verge, Techcrunch, Engadget, Cnbc, Bloomberg, Ars Technica and Electrek. The sites that Idk may be legit too but I don't wanna spend much time researching the legitimacy.

  • [Game Thread] 27-28 MAY 2024 - Conference Finals Game 4s
  • Jaylen Brown seems to have a high acceleration. The opposing team should have help defense. To the Pacers' credit, they did their best to defend Brown for me. If there's help defense, does he have good passing and court vision like Doncic? If no help defense, he can rely on his acceleration to score repeatedly.

  • Gemini is the new Google+
  • The article is too long for me. 2 of its main ideas are "Everyone using large-language models should be aware of ai hallucination and be careful when asking those models for facts." and "Firms that develop large-language models shouldn't downplay the hallucination and shouldn't force ai in every corner of tech."

There was already so much misinformation on the Web before Chatgpt 3.5. There's still so much misinformation. No need for the hallucination to worsen the situation. We need a reliable source of facts. Optimistically, Google, Openai or Anthropic will find a way to reduce or eradicate the hallucination. The Google ceo said they were making progress. Maybe true. Or maybe generic pr lie so folks would stop following up re the hallucination.

  • Nvidia will now make new AI chips every year
  • Nvidia is making so many Hopper and Blackwell cards, but is there a severe oversupply of gaming graphics cards (RTX 40 series)? I did a quick search. The Hopper can't do games. Or if there's a workaround, it won't be as 👍 as a 40 series card.

  • Secret meeting between Apple and TSMC reported, possibly to reserve all 2nm capacity
  • The 3-nanometer thing was classic anticompetitive behavior right? Will the European union or the American government investigate Apple?

Tsmc surely is in a class of its own. The other Arm cpu makers are lagging.

I'm awaiting the M4 Macbook air. I wanna see the performance comparison between it and a Windows 💻 with a 2024 Intel cpu.

  • The Lakers dismissed Darvin Ham

Sources tell ESPN that the Lakers dismissed Darvin Ham.

Yes! For me the missed challenge opportunity with Bron was Ham's biggest error in the Nuggets series. The 1 when Bron was so frustrated and the Nuggets got an easy basket.

Replacing Ham is a welcome improvement but it doesn't solve all the Lakers' issues.

They need a consistent scorer aside from AD and Bron. Ideally this scorer will be their top scorer. AD will be the 2nd scorer. Bron will be the 3rd.

They need a better 2nd unit. They'll provide some scoring and defense while AD and Bron are resting. Right now the roster is clearly shallow.

Of course, assuming that Bron will stay.

Nvidia knows it's the star of the backbone of the current ai boom and seems to be going full steam. I'm hoping for more innovations on tools for ai and gaming in the future.
