Need recommendations on something like Vaultwarden but for 2FA only.
  • True, but as I shared in Original Post, I like to keep my 2FA separate from my Password Manager for additional security. But you did give a great idea. I'll try to run 2 separate instances of Vaultwarden 1 for Password Manager ans 2nd for 2Fa only, I'll check how that works out and update it here. Thanks tho.

  • Authy is great, but I really wanna selfhost 2FA, as I did personally ran into issue back in 2019 or 2020 where Microsoft Authenticator suddenly lost 2FA cloud sync backup so I had to send my Legal ID proof for multiple accounts for them to disable 2FA, while I still didn't recover my old Instagram account as face verification kept on failing and Meta's human support is nonexistent, and this happened for multiple users on Microsoft Authenticator and was showered with negative reviews on play store back then. Since then I dont trust Cloud Sync for any thing, so I did use Aegis and did auto backups and sync on that, but currently I'm looking for something simple for my parents which can Autosync without them worrying about restoring backups, where they can just login and use. • Yes actually I'm personally using Aegis rn, but I'm okay with backing up and having backup sync elsewhere, and then do the restore if I switch or something.

But I'm actually looking for Selfhosted solution for my sibling and parents as they are not that tech savvy, so it would be headache for them to think about backup, sync and restore. they need something which is a simple login and go solution like Vaultwarden (bitwarden) with Automatic server sync, where they can enter a link or use app to access it.

So I selfhost Vaultwarden which allows TOTP but I like to keep my 2FA and Password Manager separate, so I'm looking for something like Vaultwarden which can sync up with my server, but for 2FA only. I came across 2FAuth which can do it, but it only has webapp, so if a Alternative Service where there is a client for iOS and Android it would be a lifesaver. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations.

  • Use tailscale as it is easy to setup, and just with 1 or 2 commands you can have it setup to forward subnets (which can let you use the same local IPs remotely to connect back, instead of Tailscale assigned once) and Exit Node (route all your internet traffic from your Home connection when you are on public network and enable exit note on client)

  • This reminds me of my posts on reddit 3 months prior, it all started with Noob here🤣, so even I am a noob. Or you can say you are on Lemmy and not reddit, so I wont call you or myself a noob anymore, as noobs are still on reddit😉.But we all learn bits with time. I read those posts too, but gave it a shot anyway and its been 4 months of using Duplicati, still running without any issues.

I do randomly test it as well, but copy/pasting my stuff and then deleting it from original location, and use Duplicati to restore and works well everytime. I did those tests every 7days for 1st month, but after that it has been 3 months where I do similar tests randomly either 20 days or monthly. And still doing good.

Key part to remember while Duplicati is Versioning, I keep atleast 5 versions of backup (daily backups), and the things I backup are mainly Photos or password manager data. So even if I get a corrupted back up and even lose my system. I'll still have the 4 other backups which ain't very old, as its daily backups with 5 versions so, 1 backup per day for last 5 days. So 90% chances are I won't lose the data, but in case even if I do it would negligible.

  • No as I shared I only use a remote machine (which is my old laptop converted to NAS) (2nd house is a dream as of now 🙈)

On a serious note as Duplicati backups can be encrypted, you can use remote Machine, backup to a machine in 2nd house as Syncthing works over relays for remote locations as well, or you can also send encrypted backups to cloud like Gdrive, Dropbox, etc.

  • here you are wrong. The very first step in Plex is having a user account not local but on Plex (of course that is going to their servers). So the very 1st step shows it is not fully selfhosted. Neither it is fully private.

  • I follow the rule of 3 for backups. So I keeps 3 copies of things I like to back up.

    1. Original (Drive 1)
    2. Duplicati backups (Sent to drive 2 - Same Machine)
    3. Using Syncthing I sync The Backup Folder in Drive 2 to a remote Machine

Delete the post on other instance's community

So I made one post to test the sync with other community, now my post did go there on the other instance's community, but when I delete that post from Fediverse link, it still shows up on other instance's community, while it is deleted from my profile, is that normal behavior ?
